Has anyone out there had the opportunity to use the New ONYX BALLS? We used it in Oregon over the weekend. Very good Ball. PRO's, Great Distance, ball JUMPS very well off the bat. One of the best things about this ball, it remains CLEAN the entire game. Will NOT get dirty. CON's, The ball has a very weak cover. Tears real easy. Over all, it is NOT as good as the ROCK. But much BETTER than the Baden Fire that SSUSA is using.

Yes, they are great! Stayed hard, u get a nice sound and feel when hitting them.
I wouldn't use them for BP...could be bat breakers..

I bought a Dozen of the Onyx and a dozen of the Mortar balls to do a heads up comparison during games. We play in a league where the home team supplies the balls for each game for both teams to use. Interestingly found out 2 things. First both balls held up well and didn't seem bothered much by the heat. The Onyx balls seemed to travel a bit further and get through the infield a little faster. But the really interesting part was 2 pitchers from 2 different noticed a difference right away. I started both games with the Onyx in play and then when a foul ball happened or a HR was hit the Mortar was thrown in second. The one pitcher before every throwing the Mortar started looking down at the ball and threw it back to me and said this isn't a legal ball its smaller and lighter than a regular ball. We talked back and forth and it's an officially stamped ball so we used it but he is right the Mortar is slightly smaller and lighter than the Onyx and pretty much the old beat up balls in my bag. Second pitcher didn't notice and size difference but after 2 pitches said this ball is lighter than an official ball. I still have to do an actual side by side comparison of them both.
Than being said for the price the Onyx ball is top end, they will definitely be the ball of choice for our team moving forward.
Hope that helps

We hit them in Galt, CA last weekend and they were hot right away. Balls jumping all over the place and seemed to wear real nicely.

During a recent tournament in Manteca CA. (Big League Dreams with turf fields)our team with several others were asked to evaluate the new ONYX ball. The ball was the ONYX OPC23YL. Temperatures were in excess of 100 degrees and the balls were used for multiple games over two days. The performance of these balls was outstanding. In addition they remained very clean for the most part and truly did not degrade in color and performance in the heat unlike that of the Baden Fire. I have no horse in this race whatsoever. Just an evaluation of a very viable alternative.
