Aug. 23 DRobb 18 posts | Timberworks Construction This gives me great sadness that the 2024 World Championship will be the last tournament Timberworks will be playing in. As of the end of the Worlds I will be stepping down as the manager and Sponsor of Timberworks Construction. This was one of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make, but because of my health and wanting to spend more time with my kids and grandkids I've had to make this decision. Once the decision was made it was like a hundred pounds were lifted off my shoulders. It is the right decision at this time. I would like to thank each and every player that has played for Timberworks. What a great group of guys that has played for Timberworks the last 9 years. I don't think you could find a better group of guys that bonded and had the comradery that we had and bought in to the way I coach. I will miss every one but I'll pop up at a tournament every now and then. God Bless Doug Robbins |
Aug. 23 Chief144 Men's 70 161 posts | Timberworks Construction Doug, you have been an inspiration to so many players, coaches, SSUSA and softball in general. You will be missed by so many that have had the pleasure of playing for you and working with you as a director! You took me under your wing and taught me the ins and outs of being a good director, teaching me art of being fair, honest and keeping a cool head! Worked most of the time! While this was a hard decision but in the end your health, family and spending time with the grand kids is most important. I wish you good luck in the future, good health and God Bless! Your friend, Win |

Aug. 23 MurrayW Men's 65 222 posts | Timberworks Construction Doug, it has been an honor to play for you. Thanks for allowing this Texas boy to join your team. I’ve met a lot of great teammates because of you and been able to win several championships. I’m glad to hear that the “weight has been lifted”. You deserve to spend time with your family. I am sure that it will bring you a lot of joy. Murray |
Aug. 24 Webbie25 Men's 70 2417 posts | Timberworks Construction It was a huge honor to play for you. The quality of EVERY person on the team and the quality of play was incredible. Thank you for your hard work and leadership, Doug and we send our prayers to you and your family. Best to you. |
Aug. 24 DaveDowell Men's 70 4432 posts | Timberworks Construction Sustained excellence has been the hallmark of the Timberworks dynasty for almost an entire decade. That's not an accident. It's solely a reflection of exceptional leadership and commitment: Yours. I have always admired how the Timberworks mystique was simply because you attracted and retained talented players willing to buy into "team over self." Not because of any other motivation. I'm going to miss our spirited rules theory debates, and the occasional head-butting that resulted! But I probably won't miss trying to arrange convoluted schedules (like again this year) so your crazy Texan can play full time for you AND for Texas Crush! Enjoy your well-deserved softball retirement and don't be a stranger. You know where to find us. Congratulations on a wise decision. And going out on top is pretty cool, too! ... Good luck, my friend. |
Aug. 24 softball4b Men's 70 1260 posts | Timberworks Construction When a team tries to determine their potential and or success, you look at the very best and TRY to beat them. Timberworks and you have been the standard for our age group for years. We/I have enjoyed every interaction regardless of the outcome. Thank you for your contributions to our sport. If the grandkids weren't spoiled before, look out. Mike Adair |

Aug. 26 Bruce M Men's 55 140 posts | Timberworks Construction Doug - A true hall of famer! Thank you so much for what you have done for the softball community. Thank you for giving of your time and extremely valuable advice to me personally. You spent so much time with me explaining how you built and sustained the successful dynasty of Timberworks. I continue to evangelize your message. You made it so clear: "I don't care how good of a player you are. I don't care how much you think you can contribute. I care a great deal about your attitude and how you would fit into the team. I will not tolerate negativity. I will not tolerate negative criticism toward any player. You get one warning. After that, you are off the team...permanently. Every member of my team knows their contribution. The character of a team is not demonstrated through wins. It is demonstrated when the team loses." These are just some of the diamonds you shared with me. Doug, I've personally witnessed how true it is. I've seen teams collapse...not because of the talent....but because of their attitude toward each other....and their conduct on the field. I've talked to other championship teams...be it AA, AAA, major, or major plus....they all say similar things. At any level, you can find great players. However, if their work ethic or attitude stinks, they are ultimately not going to help a team with sustained success. |
Aug. 26 Doak 20 posts | Timberworks Construction I had a call form Doug tonight about playing golf and he said he posted something on the Message Board and I knew right away what it was and I don't think it was a surprise to anyone who was close to Doug. Although, I have not played for Doug for 2 years, it still felt like a gut punch. The end of a great run is always sad. It was when the Florida Crush and the Fergies/Superior runs ended. There is a mortality in every living thing including great softball teams. But, this is offset by the extreme pleasure and fond memories of playing for Doug and being a teammate on those Timberworks teams. The mixture of camaraderie, competition and success was, well awesome. I can honestly say I enjoyed the relationships with everyone I played with on those teams, great guys and Champions all. I wish for two things: health and another chapter for all my former teammates and especially Doug. I always believe there are next chapters. Prayers to us all, Doak #37 |

Sept. 6 hackman 10 posts | Timberworks Construction Doug, how can I add to what has already been said, except to say with all my heart, thank you. I have been fortunate to have played on Timberworks for a couple years in my 60s, and then continue with 65s and now 70s. I could not be prouder to be part of this great team you have built. The wins are legendary, but the friendship goes beyond the greatness of the team record, and that friendship will continue. As most of us have, I have played on many competitive teams, but this one has been special. We always have fun together, we rib each other, but we never get down on anyone. That's the way it should be, so thank you for building a great team and setting a great example, and for finding all the right guys! Always your friend, and prayers to you. Jeff |
