Hi, SSUSA rule 1.62 states in part "The mat shall be made of rubber or other suitable material." Can someone please clarify the definition of "other suitable material? Thanks

I've seen/heard about plywood and fiberglass strike mats. Both are reputed to be durable and will make an obvious audible sound when the ball hits it, aiding in ball/strike calls. Hope this helps.

Totally agree with Dave. In Washington league play, we have mats that are plywood. They are wrapped in thin turf so they can't/won't splinter. I love them. They help.
