Spring World 3/21 status
Hey folks- I understand that games at the Canyons were cancelled today. Are there updates that can be posted here for us? Haven’t heard anything about Little Valley. Much appreciated. Joe

With more rain forecasted, more teams might be checking out before 11am and heading home.

Please make a decision so teams that traveled a long ways away can check out without getting charged and head home..

We have written a proposed Adverse Weather Recover Plan and submitted it to the St. George Parks & Recreation Dept. for comment ... The plan calls for each team to play one seeding/warm-up game prior to commencing bracket play ... The games Wednesday will play under the 5-inning format (4 innings/40 minutes/5th inning open) and then the Thursday schedule will play out as published prior to the rains ... TIMING: This structure of games will require about 8½ hours of time at The Canyons, and somewhat lesser at Bloomington and The Fields at Little Valley ... We're at the mercy of Mother Nature for the most part ...

It will require three things to happen for implementation:
1. Rain to stop sooner rather than later;
2. St. George P&R field prep professionals have adequate time to handle fields; and
3. The City grants our request to waive Local Leagues Wednesday (not played Monday or Tuesday)

As soon as we hear anything ..............

So when will the parks and Recreation Department approve or deny your recovery plan just looking at the fields this morning I cannot believe they will be playable tomorrow.

With rain predicted to fall from 2am to 6am tonight, it would be extremely doubtful for any play tomorrow. If that happens, is the tournament cancelled at that point?

UPDATED SESSION #2 INFORMATION • We just (7:50 PM PST) got off the phone with a facilities supervisor for City of St. George Parks and Recreation Softball ... He informed us that there will be NO softball played tomorrow (Wednesday) on any of their facilities ... This is a player safety decision based on their conclusion that the fields are dangerous and unplayable, and it will take at least one full day to remedy that circumstance ... Their decision effectively, and officially, cancels Session #2 of this year's Spring World's event ... Teams will hear from the Sacramento Home Office about refund (or future credit, your option) of team entry fees ... Thank you for being here and travel home safely ...

What's the word about this weekend? It's supposed to rain tomorrow and need decision so we can cancel our rooms and not drive all that way for nothing. I am waiting on a call back from the city. I received pictures of the fields this morning and they don't look good and more rain in the forecast. And i would like to credit payment to Vegas for SW Championships please.

HWM10 ... THE WEEKEND IS A "GO" ... We have been in contact with the facility supervisor handling the Spring World's from the City of St. George Parks & Recreation Dept. twice so far today, at 6:30 and 8:30 AM ... There's probably not any reason for you to make further attempts to call them, it's not the best utilization of his time ... He described in detail the current processes they are doing today and tomorrow with extra personnel, and expressed an "..extremely high confidence level.." that things will be fine for the weekend session at The Canyons Complex ... In their view, the nominal "trace" rainfall possibilities are nothing like the Monday/Tuesday circumstance, and will not hamper their effort ...

Regarding your entry fee credit request, here is the SSUSA policy that may have an impact on your decision: When the tournament schedules are drafted, all entry fees are deemed fully earned ... Teams withdrawing after that time forfeit those fees to cover a portion of the cost to re-draft them ... If you withdraw now, there will not be any entry fee availability to refund or credit to a future event ... We hope to see you here ...
