Discussion: Playing without an ACL ligament
I just had knee surgery to repair a severe meniscus tear but my completely torn ACL could not be repaired due to arthritis in the knee. My Doctor says I should be able to continue to play and probably without a brace. I am some what skeptical despite positive finding on the internet.
A big part of my game is my speed not only on bases but in the outfield.
Anyone playing without an ACL intact? Wearing a brace? Any advise?
Thanks
I had knee replacement and the ACL is typically removed as part of that surgery, at least mine was.
I'm not sure how a knee replacement differs from your situation. I continue to run the bases and wear no brace.I do run more slowly though.
Tore my ACL and played football finished season played basket ball for years it would blow out pretty bad sometimes but a few weeks later I was playing again.
Had it repaired years latte.
So yes you can play but I would recommend a knee brace.
everyone's body is different
Blew my right knee out in 2018 playing in a alumni football game. Been playing without an ACL in my right knee ever since.
Yes it can be done but I recommend building up the muscles in your knee.
I blew out the ACL in both knees before I was 50 and really never had a problem. The other muscles compensated. Never wore a brace...That said i was 280 but at one time ran decent for a bigger man. My doctor who did my scopes (now at 68 i finally had one knee replaced..said it was not uncommon to do a scope and see a partial or complete ACL tear. Guys didnt even know when they did it...nor did I...Give it time and work hard to strengthen muscles around it and dont be radical on cutting and going from 0 to 50 in one second..good advice for anyone over 50..good luck
I've been playing without an ACL in my right knee and torn meniscus for 4 years (I'm 64). I wear a hinged knee brace and it seem to give me okay stability for base running and roaming the outfield. Some days are a little painful but most days are fine.
