is call obstruction or interference
Senior 60 and over league. Runner from first takes one step and stops to allow the first baseman to go in front of the bag to field the ball. Fielder flubs and ball slowly goes near outfield grass. Runner from first tries to go to second but first baseman backs into him. Takes a few seconds for runner to get by and is safe at second. Batter is safe at first as second baseman cannot field ball and throw to first is late. What is call? Thanks

I would have OBS on this play.. the fielder was given the opportunity to make the play but booted it .. he then backed into the runner .. the umpire should signal and give a verbal OBS call and let the play follow thru.. after the play is complete the umpire would then award bases (if any) that he deemed the runner would have made..

Depends I've actually never saw a flub in the rule book so.....
If the fielder is in his motion of fielding the ball and is falling backward he has the base path.

rob64 .. that is not what the OP was ..

the fielder flubbed/booted the ball and then he backed into the runner while going after the ball .. the runner purposely let the fielder advance in front to field the ball so he didn't interfere and then attempted to run behind him.. In my judgment I would have OBS on the fielder not INT on the runner

Nobody was called out on the play from what I've read.
