Costs to play in Senior Southwest Championship
I have a general observation about the cost of playing in this tournament when our team is scheduled to play at Big League Dreams. Our team now has to pay $8/day/player. Figuring 3 days of contests and 15 players on the team, we are now adding $360 to the $640 entry fee for a total of $1,000. Question: Why are only the teams that play at BLD charged this added cost? Why can't it be spread out to all the teams? Just asking because it doesn't seem fair.

Don’t forget your spouse if they are coming! BLD is no longer THE place to play. That entry fee is a joke. Hope I never have to play there again.

I agree and did some rough math. There are approximately 90 games at BLD. Assuming a team plays 2 games per day for one fee, 45 games are paid for. Each team’s players will have to pay 3 times. 45 games times 15 players per team gives a total of 675 gate fees being paid. This does not include family members. Total fees paid is 675 times $8 which equals $5400. If you take this $5400 of fees divided by 246, the number of entered teams, you get $22 per team. Therefore, if each team paid an entry fee of $640 plus their $22 share of BLD fees, the entire cost could be equally shared by all teams irrespective of where they are playing. Cost per team would then be $662, a cost that would ensure all teams pay the same amount to play in the tournament and no player would have to pay an entree fee. I am not sure my math or assumptions are correct, but I think you catch my drift.

Oops, forgot to include the 40’s and 50’s, 41 teams, in the calculations. My guess is the additional teams would change the team fee to $50 or more. Again the point stays the same: all teams should pay the same entry fee.

Just so you know, the SSUSA's share of the Big League Dreams daily park entry fees has always been, and remains, exactly ZERO ... We don't set the policy on the existence of park entry fees anywhere, nor do we determine the amounts they may charge ... And we certainly never receive a penny of it ... As long as you're intrigued by rough math, how much more do you think the drivers pay to get to Las Vegas than the flyers? ... The way gas prices are going, the flyers may have the better deal soon! ... And as a logic refresher, the entry fees for ALL teams are identical, regardless of whether you're 40-Major+ or 80-AAA, or anywhere in between ...

The factual distortions and misconceptions that drive this fun, but silly, discussion every time a B.L.D., a Victory Lane or a similar "for profit" facility is in the rotation make it entertaining ... But don't count on us being foolish enough to invoke a form of socialism by trying to allocate some other entity's revenues where we have absolutely no economic interest to justify it ... Everyone will very likely continue to make their own decisions on whether or not they want to play at B.L.D. when their group is assigned there, which is as it should be ... As one of the Field Directors assigned to B.L.D. all week, I may try to keep track of how many "observations" on this topic I hear ... Gonna be a "bet the OVER" type number! ... Happy Easter this week and Good Luck to all next week! ...

We'd be happy to be there again! We haven't played at BLD since 2015! Nice and cool in the restaurants, watch the games, pretty good food and cold beer!

I should add, id rather pay the $8 a day and play at BLD than play at Shadow Rock or Hollywood.

I understand the displeasure with paying at the gate but $24 for 3 days isnt too bad. The price hike frustration came from the hotels in St George a couple weeks ago. What cost $600 for 3 nights the last few years was $1050 for 3 nights this year. Same hotel, not a holiday weekend. We will not be back next year.

AJC ... That's the reason all of the SSUSA tournament staff and umpiring crew stayed in Mesquite and did the daily road trip to/from St. George ... That, and for a lot of us, the absolutely beautiful "back way" via Old Highway 91 route through the Paiute reservation and Beaver Dam Conservation area ... Just an incredible trek each day ...

If my budget is so tight that $24 (or $48 with the wife) prevents me from enjoying a trip out of town, then going out of town is probably not the best financial decision.

Most BLD's are becoming Sub-Par field usages. Bedsides we/us with our Sr. teams playing there, the complexes are over used 24/7 games with their evening league games in local areas.

Plus their so calls ?foods? are not that healthy to consume.

In addition the BLD in Vegas or West Covina CA. you'll never KNOW? if one's POV will be broken into and/or stolen... So were paying to play at theses facilities to have our vehicles broken into? IMHO :(

The method and cost of transportation is not germaine to the discussion nor is the cost of the hotel you choose or the restaurant at which you eat. The discussion should remain with the cost for a team (players) to step onto the field once they have settled into Las Vegas. I agree $24 isn't a budget buster for most, but that is not the point. Socialsm? You also make it sound like a team can choose which venue they want to play on. Obviously you cannot. You also continue to fail to recognize the difference between "entry fee" and what I call a "modified entree fee", be it only $24 per player or $360 for a team of 15. Thanks for providing this open forum and I realize you guys run these tournaments the best way you see fit. I appreciate all that SSUSA does for us older, not old, guys. This ends my comments on this subject as it is a done deal. Perhaps we can finish it one day over a beer. I'll see you Tuesday at BLD, and LET'S PLAY BALL!

BLD is charging more so they can perform upgrades and maintenance. Unfortunately for whatever reason they did not do much maintenance and are sticking the bill to us.

On the good side, at least you don't have to worry about the infields being dragged or foul lines in the outfield. Last year ssusa did not do either at our worlds.

C’mon Tim. I’m sure all of us have better things to spend $48 on. And of course I would rather play at BLD than Hollywood or Shadow Rock. But I would also rather keep my $48 and play at Arroyo Grande or Sunset.

The cost of a hotel has everything to do with the cost to step onto to the field. All expenses have to be counted to get the full cost for each player in attendance. Yes the topic was the gate fee so going in when playing in Vegas i guess you should factor in the possibility of playing at BLD.

So charge the teams that are playing at Hollywood and Shadow Rock 8.00/Day to ease the burden for those fortunate enough to play at BLD? Now that's funny.
I have an idea, try to win it back in the Casinos.

I am willing to pay for: clean restrooms, inside seating area, AC, covered seating, actual seats, large dugouts, and the sound of my HR balls hitting the backdrop.

The added cost to playing at at BLD facility is a possibility that everyone is aware of when playing in tournaments in Vegas. If the added costs upset you, quit complaining and make it simple. Don't play in Vegas. There is no winning. We have had to play at Shadow Rock and Hollywood for the last 5 years in a row. All I ever here is when is it going to be our turn to play at BLD. Can win

Having read the above thoughts about Hollywood from only a few players, I was looking forward to playing there for the first time. Last Tuesday was brutal. Never had that strong a wind when sailing. Two games on #1 and outfielders camped at about 150-170 feet. OBP's took a hit for most players and the pitchers did a fantastic job keeping the walks down. The turf is beat up, especially left field on #2. Wednesday morning at 8AM weather was better, except for the attempt at stealing a players glove on the leftfield foul line fence by a HS girl walking up to school. The owner caught her behind field #1.

Dan, the wind was brutal everywhere during the week. Disappointing that there were no concessions at Hollywood or Shadowrock.
