Reading over the 2021 minutes:
Motion to change medical reclassification waiting period to 120 days minimum (currently 45 days due to COVID)
12-0 passes
Fine and dandy for warm climates where ball is played year-round. 3 Months off in colder climates just about knocks out the bulk of the season. The result may be underreporting of cases..... in the older classifications the loss of a player (or 2) for that long could severely impact his or her entire team. IMOP: I think it's an over-reaction.
OZ40 ... There was support on the Committee for an even longer waiting period, but 120 days was, with 20-20 hindsight, an appropriate number that could (and did) get at least seven votes ... The "medical exemption" is used with increasing frequency as a device to avoid an earned rating increase for the team, but this didn't seem like the year where a motion to abolish it could pass ... But if we get a few more like the team that recently won a Major division World Championship in a very large division with six players filing Medical Exemptions requests immediately thereafter, support will increase for elimination of this much-abused option ... Too many applicants appear to use it to disguise another underlying ancillary issue of: "I don't want to play at the higher rating level" ... I'm just one Committee voter, speaking for myself, but I would vote, without hesitation or reservation, to eliminate the medical exemption process entirely ...
I waited for several days to see if anyone.....ANYONE....would comment on the REASON so many asked for and got a medical exemptions. No comments? Really? I know there are circumstances it is merited.........Your turn guys.
