Aug. 29, 2021 coop3636 514 posts | 60 AAA in Vegas Hey SSUSA I might be missing it, but which teams are in the National pod and which are in the American pod? Also, which fields are we playing on in the brackets? (I see which fields we are on in the RR games) I looked and looked but either I missed it or it is not written on the bracket page. Please clarify Thanks Brett Cooper TN Connection 60 AAA If I overlooked it, just call me a dumba$$ and tell me anyway. |
Aug. 29, 2021 DaveDowell Men's 70 4315 posts | Coop ... Nobody (especially me!) is going to pass judgment on others who may not know everything about the brackets ... The 40-team 60-AAA Division will play ... • Thursday Seeding Games at Sunset (28 games/teams) and Warm Springs (12 teams/games) Parks, after which they will be seed assigned based on those games from #1 through #40 ... • The Winner of the USA game is the #1 Seed in the National bracket pod ... From there it is a "serpentine draft" ... USA game runner-up is #1 Seed in the American bracket pod ... Third seed is #2A, fourth seed is #2N, fifth is #3N, sixth is #3A, back and forth until all 40 teams are bracket slotted ... • ALL bracket games for Friday and Saturday are at Sunset Park (only) ... • Sunday survivors (eight teams) will play at Arroyo Grande in Henderson ... • I am solely responsible for who you play on Thursday (except for the USA teams who earned their own way on merit to their National Championship game) ... You are solely responsible for who you play from Friday forward ... • No teams will be eliminated on Friday ... Saturday will be "moving day" ... Good luck everyone! ... P.S. - It's the same conceptual theory for the 47-team 55-AAA division ... Global seeding to place teams in National and American bracket pods (all at BLD) beginning Friday ... |

Aug. 30, 2021 HSquared Men's 60 147 posts | D² - First time seeing the mention of a "serpentine draft". Intriguing. How often is it used? And "what" determines "when" it is used? |
Aug. 30, 2021 DaveDowell Men's 70 4315 posts | H² ... For those who play Fantasy Football, a serpentine draft is used to balance the picks so that one team isn't getting the first pick in every round (if you study this, the "best" place to be over a multi-round draft is in the "5" or "6" slot) ... In a 10-team League, the picks will be ... R1/R2 1 / 20 2 / 19 3 / 18 4 / 17 5 / 16 6 / 15 7 / 14 8 / 13 9 / 12 10 / 11 I use this technique whenever we have a "pod" situation ... Doing it this way ("left/right/right/left..") is slightly statistically more fair than the "left/right/left/right.." method ... |
Aug. 30, 2021 HSquared Men's 60 147 posts | Thanks D². While I grasp the concept, what determines a "pod"? Number of teams? More specifically, could the serpentine draft have been used for the 55 major @ the Worlds? |
Aug. 30, 2021 DaveDowell Men's 70 4315 posts | H² ... Yes, it's all based on team counts ... I have written custom Three-Game-Guarantee (3GG) bracket templates for up to about 36± teams ... Anything less than that (like the 32-team 55-Major) doesn't require splitting the teams into smaller groups known as "pods" ... The proper seeding is already built in ... Above that number, it's simply too cumbersome all in one bracket ... It's easier to do two separate "pods" at approximately one-half of the total (± 1 team) and bring them together on Championship day with appropriate "cross over" feeding of teams ... You can see that on page 5 of both the 60-AAA and the 55-AAA brackets this year ... OK, back to work for me! ... Travel safely and good luck ... |
