Grounds Crew
I know that SSUSA has no control over grounds crew. But when you see a bunch of young guys pulling water towards the infield rather than away from the playing surface, should you say something or just keep quite.

I myself could not stay quite (believe or not) so I said, should you not be pushing the water towards the grass area rather than the infield! The young adult claimed they did not want the clay to go towards the grass (WOW) so I mentioned it to the older adult who looked at me like I was insulting his intelligence and said we do this for a living.

I turned around and said that's no excuse for doing it wrong.

after all this was done the losers bracket of our division was eliminated and the undefeated team was name the winner of the tournament. I was not happy with this outcome, we where on a roll, but second place is better than last.

Just saying!

Manny ... You may not be aware of the unique infield circumstances at Phillip A. Bolen Memorial Park, where you played, as opposed to both Brambleton Regional Park and the Potomack Lakes Sportsplex ... The infield subsurface and topsoil composition at Bolen is different and has the characteristic to absorb and dissipate water much faster than the other two ... At Bolen, pushing the water to that infield environment was the correct move ... Bolen was the only park that withstood the storm and where play resumed ... The Loudoun County Parks and Recreation Dept. closed Brambleton (at 12:30 PM) and Potomack Lakes (at 1:00 PM) and sent their workers home based on the assessment that the fields would not be playable again on Sunday...

Because of the early shutdown at Brambleton, the 50-Major and 50-AAA winners' bracket finals were not far enough along to be an "official game" in either division, which would have prevented the determination of champions on the field of play ... Those games were suspended and the teams moved the 9± miles to Bolen and played after their schedule concluded following the 90± minute rain delay ... Our opinion, developed over the first 5½ days of the tournament, is that the Loudoun County Parks grounds crews are as good as anywhere else in the country, and proved it by prepping every field after every game and not losing a moment of time in the master schedule ... On a personal note, it was nice to see and chat with you briefly on Saturday ... Good luck the rest of the Season! ...

Dave knowing that I don't miss an opportunity to bring field related issues to your attention here's another one:
Western Nationals Maidu Complex
we are embroiled in a dog fight of a game that started at 6;30 p.m.
Top of open inning and it's getting dark, opponent is still scoring and Umpire in chief says the lights are not coming on and we have to resume the game at 7:a.m.next morning. Much mayhem ensues with why? Where's the lights? UIC says the site supervisor was supposed to have the lights on at 7;30, mayhem resumes, UIC says stop play, more mayhem, UIC says finish the game, we do under the near cover of night.
Obviously SSUSA is not responsible but the City of Roseville (which by the way the field director was attempted to be reached to no avail).
Sorry scenario obviously, only future solution, 1. Every team bring a roll of quarters for the lights, 2.Everyone can pull their cars around the field with their lights on so the game can be finished. Insert smiley face here.

Yep, Mike, that was the "Imperfect Storm" at Maidu (and they have graciously apologized in writing) ... The person programming the lights requirement made a mistake/omission ... A different contact person who was to be available for any light issues did not hear/notice multiple calls from the site Director ... But he DID return the calls on Sunday morning to ask what he could do to help! ... That's nuts ...

And here's one from the Eastern's on Sunday ... One of the rain-delayed games moved from Brambleton (375' fence distance) to Bolen Park (300' fences) was only 2½ innings complete ... So, of course, the team who batted in the top of the third wanted that replayed so the home team didn't get the benefit of shorter fences in the bottom of the 3rd ... In a matter of fairness, probably not supported in the Rulebook, I/we granted the request to revert to the top of the 3rd ... Then came the hilarity ... A guy who had been ejected in the top of the third for an F-Bomb laced rant wanted his game ejection reversed, too, since that ½-inning didn't happen ... NOPE, sit down, Sir, and don't say anything that will get you removed from THIS park too! ...
