Nope, we never cancel on a forecast (you might be the only weather specialist labeling rain probability at 100%) ... All "play/no-play" decisions are made "at the fields of play, at game time" ... This weather forecast panic is an annual exercise at the Brickyard, and apparently this year is no different ... See you there and Good Luck! ...

One dogg,

Don't worry about the Brickyard being cancelled. It won't. Three years ago with numerous fields under water, the tourney was never cancelled. There were injuries as can be expected when laying in those conditions. Each team had to make their own decisions about continuing to play or pulling out. Why wasn't it cancelled? Can't answer that.

One dogg and tscs000 ... The Brickyard went off without a hitch and no rain issues today ... Proof, once again, that the "play/no-play decision at the fields at game time" is the appropriate policy ... If you actually went, I hope you had a fun, good day at the park and good luck tomorrow! ...

I would agree, very poor tourney. Director had 4 teams scheduled on same field at same time. Couldn't get it figured out. Bathrooms were the poorest I have ever seen at any tourney. 9 team tourney, played the the same teams in bracket play that we played in pool play. Highly doubtful that we will back. $5 a day to get into the park, for what? Obviously not for park or bathroom upgrades.

Tony ... It's certainly unusual that a team plays it's first two bracket games against the same teams they played in the seeding rounds ... The seeding game match-ups were 100% our doing ... But the bracket game opponents are solely on you guys, based on your performance in those two seeding games and the first round of bracket play, relative to the performance of the Alpha-Dawgs and IN Legends ... Nothing we could do about that ...

That's an interesting interpretation of weather that "sucked" ...

I have to agree that I was too disappointed in this years tournament mainly to the fact that very few teams signed up. In our division there was only 5 one being a Major Plus team that ended up winning it and the seeding games with the 40 Major teams. Overall, Saturday weather wasn't the greatest but really didn't rain. Would have preferred not playing until 10:00 at night as the lighting there is the worst. But at least we played and it was good to see old friends again from other teams. Good luck to all this year and stay safe!

As the scheduler for the 2021 Brickyard tournament, I am going to own the issue of 4 teams showing up at the same field / same time. There were multiple changes and divisional collapses as teams dropped from this tournament on short notice. I made a copy / paste error that caused this. My understanding from on-site personnel is that there was a simple fix- Have 2 teams walk over to the diamond with nobody on it and play ball.

This was my only tournament that is local to me this year. The park has been going downhill for a few years now, especially the last 2 or 3, for a number of reasons. May be time to find another location or ditch the tournament entirely if not. It's really sad as that used to be THE place to play ball in Indy. That said, the weather wasn't terrible and we can't control that anyway. Had a great time playing and seeing friends. After last season, I'm happy to play period:)

As for the fact we played the same 2 teams in pool and bracket play in the 50AAA, was it possible to re-draw the bracket after the 1 team dropped out on Saturday going from 9 to 8 and drop the bye for the 1 seed? I didn't look too deep at the bracket to see if that would have changed much but just a question that popped in my head.

msw4indy- There is some logic to your suggestion of changing the 50 AAA bracket from a 9 team DE, to an 8 team DE. The problem there is timing.... I do not know when the Dayton team informed the site directors of their [unplanned] withdrawal from the tournament.

There may, or may not have been enough time to do that, then notify the other teams of a schedule change.

msw4indy ... We had that bracket structure discussion after the team had informed us of their COVID-withdrawal which occurred after they had played their two seeding games ... We timed their official withdrawal to occur before the bracket began in order to avoid any inference we had manipulated the bracket to the detriment (or benefit) of any particular team ... Whether or not someone approves of that method is probably a 20-20 hindsight opinion based on the result of the Round 1 bracket games! ... It was destined for exactly a 50% approval rating, no more, no less ...

I was there this weekend and thought it was ran fine. Weather was not bad at all. restrooms were horrible though. As far as the bracket, you control your own destiny when it comes to seeding, so it is what it is, you cannot control a team dropping out, you go with the bracket drawn and have 2 forfeit games. The prizes doesn't really matter to me, I am there for the competition, having fun, and seeing people I do not get to see on a normal basis. Hope everyone have a safe trip and no injuries, and see you again at the next tourney.

I did attend this past weekend. Surprisingly, the rain did hold off. $5 entrance fee is a joke and as everyone else has stated, the restrooms were absolutely nasty. Ditch this tourney or find an alternative location with better facilities. Enjoyed the ability to get out and play ball an see people for a change.
