Sept. 9 Corn Men's 60 22 posts | Batting Anyone know of any specific training to get more distance? |
Sept. 9 DRB22 Men's 50 58 posts | Batting Really depends on your swing, IMO. There are a lot of great training videos out there that can show you how to add cut or spin to the ball for more carry. There are some workout videos to to help build up core strength to improve hip rotation. Proper mechanics can be a major factor, as can the equipment you use. |
Sept. 9 Corn Men's 60 22 posts | Batting Good advice. Wasn’t sure if I should be swinging a heavier bat to increase bat speed. Some of the pro golfers use that technique. Phil Mickelson for one—he is hitting bombs. |
Sept. 9 DRB22 Men's 50 58 posts | Batting A heavier bat won't necessarily translate to more distance, usually it is the opposite effect. What weight and bat are you swinging now? |
Sept. 9 Corn Men's 60 22 posts | Batting I have a Melee that’s 25 oz. I seem to have an ASA DiMarini that 27 oz I seem to have more pop with the DiMarini. I can get about 290 out of it I just started playing again last year. But I never have hit with power. |
Sept. 9 Corn Men's 60 22 posts | Batting But I meant swinging a heavier bat for training purposes. |
Sept. 9 Mikelmart 153 posts | Batting Corn trying to give an answer is like trying to solve Rubiks cube. My first question is why? I too have fell down the rabbit hole of more distance. You can look at bats, balls, technique, age digression, nutrition, weight training, testosterone. IMHO ask yourself would you rather hit the occasional HR and hit .500 or would you rather be a .750 hitter and get the occasional double or triple? My pep talk to my team next week will be "Chicks dig the long ball but base hits wins games. |
Sept. 9 DRB22 Men's 50 58 posts | Batting Two very different bats. I prefer an endloaded bat, I swing a 27 and I have a 28. I can't swing a 26, too light and I can;t swing a balanced bat, throws me off. I am sure I could get used one if I swung it a lot. Have you tried a Melee 26 endloaded? Depending on what ball your hitting I find it strange that you get more distance out of your ASA bat than your SR bat. |
Sept. 9 Corn Men's 60 22 posts | Batting Yes. It is odd that I seem to get more pop with the D. I have only used the Melee for one tourney. I was the 8th batter and am a 650 hitter—league average. I got cheated and decided to burn the fielder. Because I don’t have power I will always go with the pitch and hit to all fields. I should probably just stick to bases pops once I get the optimal bat for me. Again, these are the only 2 bats I have used after a 13 year layoff. Thanks guys. |
Sept. 9 DRB22 Men's 50 58 posts | Batting Personally I agree with Mikelmart...some guys naturally have a swing geared toward distance and HR's, some don't. Like he said, seen plenty of guys hit one out, or come very close then get hooked on chasing the long ball only to see their OBP plummet. I do not recommend swinging a heavier bat for training then switching back to a lighter bat for games, that will wreak havoc with your swing timing. If you want a stronger swing, find a good workout to help increase overall strength. While a little added mass, ie: heavier bat, can make a little difference, it will only make a difference if you can generate the bat speed. You can watch some vids on cutting/spinning the ball, try going to a 26oz endload, or you can just focus on solid contact and a high OBP |
Sept. 9 Corn Men's 60 22 posts | Batting Sounds good. My OBP was 633 just by trying to get on base. I think it will improve with timing and confidence. I just got a new driver that has a 50 gram shaft when most shafts are around 60. Since it feels better and my control is better. The distance is coming along. Golf is a different animal though—-can you say putt for dough! |
Sept. 9 DRB22 Men's 50 58 posts | Batting Good luck brother. I find that when I come off a tourny weekend and play golf, the slice comes back...haha, takes me 1/2 of the round to straighten it out. |
Sept. 9 Corn Men's 60 22 posts | Batting You too. Hope you guys have a good tourney in St George’s if you are Playing. |

Sept. 14 Bruce M Men's 55 140 posts | Batting Everyone has the opportunity to improve, no matter who you are. There are two essential components to achieve more distance: 1. Technique. 2. Practice. Power hitters are made, they are not born. Check out these videos: http://sportstechnique.com/swing-makeover-shows.html I recommend hitting off the T. It doesn't help timing, but it does help to focus on technique. I also strongly recommend video-taping yourself. It will help you identify the flaws, which you can then correct. The greatest hitter in the world, Ted Williams, used to get very upset when people called him a "natural". He would show them his hands, which had callouses all over them from batting practice. He would practice until his hands actually bled. He worked harder than most people. Hard, focused work and good technique will help you achieve your goal. |
Sept. 15 BruceinGa Men's 70 3252 posts | Batting Corn, my suggestion would be to find a good hitter on your team or another that likes to take bp. While hitting, ask what he thinks you could do to improve, be it for power or base hitting. You can't expect to improve much if you don't practice. Another suggestion, get rid of the 25oz bat. :) |
