Aug. 19, 2020 Ball4 Men's 55 24 posts | Confirmation on balls for Worlds Which softballs will be using for World's this year? I probably already know but just wanting to confirm. |
Aug. 19, 2020 DaveDowell Men's 70 4194 posts | Here's a re-print of my reply from Sunday to the exact same question asked by another poster ... __________ "..The choice of the specific softball "flavor" is probably about minor detail #37 on the "to be addressed later" list ... We can say with reasonable certainty only that it will be optic yellow, spherical and have .44 cor/375 comp. technical specs ... As for the rest of it, the decision will be made and announced sometime before September 18th.." |
Aug. 19, 2020 VegasBob 66 posts | If it is still the LVSSA/SSUSA World Masters, the ball should be the ISA Rock. |
Aug. 20, 2020 Zac7 22 posts | Not sure, but it would seem that ignoring a proper question or replying with a vague comment is a reason why teams look for alternative places to play. Whether correct or not, it just has a "sneaky" feel to it. |
Aug. 20, 2020 Chief144 Men's 70 159 posts | Zac7 ; SEE ANSWER ABOVE! NEXT YOU'LL BE ASKING FOR THE TEAM LIST, SCHEDULE, CAN WE PLAY AT A CERTAIN TIME, ETC! AS FOR BEING SNEAKY - IT'S A YELLOW BALL!!!!! LET THEM DO THEIR JOB- THEY ARE MOSTLY WORKING FROM HOME OR ARE ONLY IN THE OFFICE FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS EACH DAY. HAVE FUN & GOOD LUCK! |
Aug. 20, 2020 DaveDowell Men's 70 4194 posts | Zac7 ... Your premise is possibly a bit misdirected ... In the "all hands on deck" (where most "hands" are on COVID furlough) scramble approach to securing tournament venues to replace Las Vegas through September, and maybe beyond, the traditional use of The Rock ball only in Las Vegas (likely NOT the location this year), the change in the mechanics of how the event will be administered differently from prior years, the uncertainty over which flavor of softballs will even be available (they come from China), and a myriad of other more important issues to be dealt with, the formal decision and related announcement simply hasn't yet occurred, and the tournament doesn't begin for another four weeks ... It's probably going to be the same as prior years, but nothing is confirmed yet ... We'll make a formal announcement when we actually have something to announce ... You can trust us that you will have a ball to hit! ... Thanks ... |

Aug. 24, 2020 Pete Men's 75 7 posts | Why does everyone love the ROCK. It is one of the most dangerous balls. It’s flight is untrue. Ya, it flies out of the park. But it makes routine fly balls either float over the fence or knuckle away from the outfielders. The ball we used for Western Worlds is fine by me. The guys that can power the ball over the fence still can. |

Aug. 24, 2020 Omar Khayyam 1357 posts | Pete, I agree with you completely. The ROCK is my least favorite ball of all. I would rather play with a sock of a ball than the ROCK. I have missed JDub's contribution and stand behind it—the sport has changed for the worse with its hot bats and balls and this is indicated by declining participation all over senior softball. In northern California, for example, participation is down with 16% fewer teams than five years ago...and this with better health for oldsters and younger teams constantly moving into senior softball. |
