C-19 case at St. G tournament
Not to get everyone all bent out of shape, but be aware of what can happen at any tournament.

Thank you for the info. I read the article and that is a chance we take. Instead of waiting for the covid results they decide playing softball is more important so they go to the tourney before getting the test results. The player test is positive now you don't know how many others are infected. How selfish. I hope as Senior players we have more of a regard for our fellow players. Our family has lost a nephew to covid and he wasn't old. I am glad you put this out shows us we have to be aware and be safe and have respect for other players

So now we move into the lightning round of "Whack-A-Mole-Rumor-Control" !!! This would be hilarious if it weren't so damn frustrating, too! ... Glad to read it was probably a false alarm ...

Rumor? False alarm? You be the judge.

DieselDan I read the update on the retesting of the player and you are right read the article then judge . Jon44 also was right also the reporter from the St George News reported guidelines were not being followed by some and they were allowed to do it as were some teams. I have my opinion on this but I will keep them to my self. Guidelines only work when they are followed and enforced. As Jon44 said we have a choice to play or not play we all know the risk we are taking.I plan on playing in St George then I will see if playing this year is for me. If it is not I won't complain about it on this message board nobody forced me to go everyone stay safe

In other earth shattering news it was reported that Madison Square garden was shutdown as one of the reported dogs at the Westminster show tested positive for flea antibodies! Further testing revealed that the dog in question actually had ear mite antibodies. :-)

Yes, in hindsight, the parents may have gone to the tournament and kept their daughter in the hotel until they received word. Once the first test said positive, do the re test. But, I imagine over the years, parents/child's desire to play in a tournament where college coaches are present or watching videos may over ride common sense.

Reading the tournament guidelines was something I didn't do. From my observations, players packed the dugouts with no masks; plate umpire yes, base umpire no; base coaches yes, but not always in the dugout, and catchers did not have masks on. A SS took a bad hop to the nose and while she was attended to for 20 minutes or so, players stood around in a tight group and no masks. No tournament official, umpire, coach, parent, etc. said anything about spreading out.

Since our rec leagues began again in late June, I've spent maybe five minutes in the dugout. I use the chair I brought and all my gear hangs on the fence near the chair. I try to be a base coach more often.

Hopefully we as seniors will do our best in our own tournaments to keep everyone happy.

2000 out of state players, parents, coaches, by estimate that's around 6000 individuals at this tournament, basically the size of a small town. One case should not cause fear and loathing in St. George, but then again what would the media have to write about if it wasn't another Covid story.

I'll tell ya Mikelmart, if they are not hyping the 'virus' they will write about the 'peaceful protests' taking place......
