June 23, 2020 LEF #2 Men's 65 12 posts | Northeast Championship - Syracuse NY Is the tournament going to be played as scheduled? |
June 23, 2020 SSUSA Staff 3404 posts | Hopefully |
June 23, 2020 Stick1 Men's 50 17 posts | That's not a real positive answer. Lol |
June 23, 2020 SSUSA Staff 3404 posts | It's the only answer to a currently unanswerable question! |
June 23, 2020 Stick1 Men's 50 17 posts | So when will we know the answer to the million dollar question if we are playing or not? |
June 23, 2020 TimMcElroy 929 posts | Once again..... SSUSA is doing everything they possibly can to get teams back on the field as quickly, and as safely as possible. Whatever the issue is, I am confident that all avenues are being exhausted. Patience, people. |
June 23, 2020 MM1951 3 posts | Softball and baseball start dates in NY according to new phase in is July 6. But one stipulation is no tournaments with multiple teams or out of state teams Not sure if this applies to Syracuse area because all counties are in different phase in rules. But that being said Syracuse recreation dept has info so Tournament is either on or off so decision should be made as of this date |
June 24, 2020 PLAYER99 67 posts | Im pretty sure SSUSA made an announcement along time ago that if any Tournament was Cancelled they would let the Teams know 2 weeks prior to a Tournament via the Website, Message Board and Managers. Which in this case the Northeast Syracuse NY 2 week Deadline is this Friday June 26th. Its only 2 days away we should all know the answer by this Friday. Remember SSUSA is doing their Best to get this Tournaments in despite dealing with a Serious Virus in our Country that affects us all. |
June 24, 2020 Firefight 2 posts | Not to split hairs but I believe the first day of the tournament is July 7. Which would make today two weeks ahead. But as you said I’m sure SSUSA is doing everything possible to make this happen. I’m sure they want it to happen as much if not more than we do. Hoping we get the green light. Good luck to all involved. |
June 25, 2020 rbigs51 Men's 60 13 posts | With the newest restrictions I'd be surprised it comes off |
June 25, 2020 bkb555 300 posts | The county is working with state now to see if we can do this...they want it to happen and will put in any requirements to do it.may have to get tested 3days prior but it will have to be safe as possible |
June 25, 2020 Jeff50 26 posts | They need to make a decision. I'll support it either way. |
June 25, 2020 dennise12 4 posts | All events at Hopkins road park have been cancelled until July 1st as it stands now. |
June 25, 2020 Jeff50 26 posts | Tourney starts July 7th as it stands now. |
June 25, 2020 LEF #2 Men's 65 12 posts | I heard through the grapevine that a decision will be rendered today by 5pm. |
June 25, 2020 BK28 Men's 50 20 posts | I'm with Jeff50, don't delay making the decision. If the area is not ready to open up for softball tournaments so be it. Being overly cautious with somethings is not a bad idea. |
June 25, 2020 PLAYER99 67 posts | UPDATE TRAVEL ADVISORY ( NJ, NY , CT ) New Jersey, New York and Connecticut have started a Travel Advisory starting at Midnight tonight. Anyone Traveling from these 8 States listed below to NJ, NY or CT Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, North & South Carolina, Utah and Texas are required to Quarantine for 14 days I personally don't think Syracuse will be cancelled because this is a NorthEast National and alot of Teams from those States will not be traveling here except maybe--------Florida. Just my opinion Im sure SSUSA is doing everything in their power to allow the Teams to play under this Travel Ban. This is a difficult time for everyone. I hope this information helps Stay Safe |
June 25, 2020 PLAYER99 67 posts | Here is some Good News forgot to mention Northeast Tournament. Last year SSUSA Northeast Tourn had 54 Total Teams participate and NOT ONE of the Teams were from any of the 8 Travel Advisory States previously listed above. Approx number of Teams from States Northeast NY Syracuse 2019 NY---25 NJ---6 PA---5 CT---4 MD/MA---8 Teams---48 out of 54 |
June 25, 2020 rbigs51 Men's 60 13 posts | Just got the word Syracuse is cancelled |
June 25, 2020 Stick1 Men's 50 17 posts | Where you or who you get your info from? |

June 25, 2020 Cleav96 6 posts | Rumor is they are moving Northeast Championship to Westminster MD , same dates! |
June 25, 2020 MM1951 3 posts | As stated in my email on Tuesday the Governor announced last week that Baseball and softball leagues could start playing on July 6 but there was no tournaments allowed where multiple teams would be at 1 location and no games with out of state teams until further notice. All recreation dept’s in NY received new polices last week so Tournament should have been cancelled last week. |
June 25, 2020 Cleav96 6 posts | Maryland Classic Posted on website July 7-10 |
June 25, 2020 Cleav96 6 posts | July 7-12 |
June 25, 2020 TimMcElroy 929 posts | Answers to popular MARYLAND CLASSIC questions Carroll County Sports Complex (5 fields) in Westminster, MD will serve as the host. We're on the hunt for more diamonds. Teams that entered the Syracuse tournament will get the first crack at entering the Maryland Classic- probably a 36 hour head start. Afterwards, new teams can enter on a space available basis. Dates of play- July 7-9.... Men's 65-80 July 10-12.... Men's 40-60 The Maryland Classic is NOT currently a TOC qualifier. SSUSA is looking at events going on around the country and may have some update in the future. As I type this message, the answer is no. It's a WMC qualifier, but not a TOC qualifier. The Maryland Classic is a 4 game guarantee for $450. If you already paid for the Syracuse tournament you can transfer credits to pay for this one. If you have not paid for Syracuse you'll need to make that payment to me (see tournament page for details). Personal note.... If the July 7-12 dates don't work for you, take a look at the Bert Bennett Memorial, which will be played a week later at the same facility. Dates for that event have been revised (now July 15-19). |
June 25, 2020 PLAYER99 67 posts | Thanks Tim M for all your Hard Work and keeping everyone updated. |
June 26, 2020 rbigs51 Men's 60 13 posts | Got the word from the guy running our team last evening |
June 26, 2020 Cookie92 35 posts | Tim, Thanks for making the arrangements to get a tournament at Westminster. You do a really good job for the players and I just wanted to let you know I appreciate how much effort you put into the season.... The people in California could learn a lot from you... Thanks again.. |
June 26, 2020 Cookie92 35 posts | It would be great if the Westminster tournament was made a TOC. There have already been numerous TOCs lost this year... Making it a TOC might bring in more teams for the tournament and it would be great gesture from SSUSA... |
June 26, 2020 Cleav96 6 posts | Hopefully we have some 50 plus teams. .50 Core Softball(Virginia),Team Dudley East Coast (Maryland) and Deluxe Bakery (NJ) attending? |
June 26, 2020 TimMcElroy 929 posts | Cookie92- Quite the opposite. I've learned more about this business from the people in California than anyone else. What I've been able to do with respect to seniors in the eastern states is a direct result of their desire to help me along. They've supported me in ways that others simply did not or would not. You've got a limited view of what actually goes on from behind your desk. You don't see the passion and effort that they put into making these tournaments go. That's unfortunate- because Terry, Fran, Dave, Stephanie, Anthony, George, Tiffany, Tyler and Rachel are the type of people that I'd walk through fire for. PS- The people in California were fully involved in this "Plan B" move from Syracuse to Westminster. They were working their butts off until 4pm yesterday to make it happen in the State of NY and in other locations while also working this angle with me. |
