Update on tournament in Ft. Myers (June 19-21)
I have received a slew of calls, texts and emails about the Ft. Myers tournament in the past few days. All of them include "I heard that ___________" and most come from players rather than managers. I'd like to clear up a few things.

TOURNAMENT DATES are posted on the site as June 19-21. They are correctly listed. Older divisions will begin on Friday and the younger divisions will begin on Saturday.

MOST AGE / SKILL DIVISIONS have teams entered in the tournament. While many players just want to get back on the field, please know that SSUSA policies will be followed. That includes player registrations, team roster rules, COVID related processes and scheduling.

DEADLINES for entering and paying the fee are June 4th. That date is firm because there are too many behind the scenes planning activities that need to take place in order to get the first pitch off on June 19th. We've already got more entries than prior seasons and will soon hit the max. Teams that wait until the last minute may be left out.

LEE COUNTY TOURISM is communicating with me regularly to discuss the tournament. We are aware that the tournament would not be played if scheduled to start TODAY but are expecting things to change in time for our event. We need to prepare ourselves for a positive ("Play Ball") outcome.

COMMUNICATIONS- All inbound / outbound communication should come from the team's manager. I've had multiple calls from players on a few different teams. Please refrain from doing this as it only creates confusion. If there are any changes to the tournament we will communicate directly through the manager. Players will also get updates through the SSUSA newsletter which is being published weekly during the pandemic.

We all want to get back on the field, but please be patient and trust the process.
Regards- Tim McElroy

If anyone needs a high level player for this let me know, Major rated with lots of credentials. I live a few hours from the tournament and my team isn't entered into this and who knows when they will play. I am an OF and also can play 1st/C if needed. My contact email is rdrman66@yahoo.com

Folks,

I'm going to try this again.... PLEASE do not listen to things you hear through the rumor mill regarding the Sunshine State Showdown. Being an independently hosted qualifier, all communication on this event comes from the Tournament Director (Tim McElroy). My process is simple- If there is something that needs to be shared, I send an email to the managers who are entered in the tournament. After some period of time elapses and managers have had a chance to act / react, I post the same information here for all players to read.

The Sunshine State Showdown is NOT CANCELED. There will be some changes made to the original plan and I will communicate them to managers (probably tomorrow morning). Doing it this way ensures that all people get the same message, from the same person at the same time. This is VERY IMPORTANT because the message will have a slightly different impact on each of the 30 (now 28) teams.

I have asked for this a number of times recently and will now do it again-
PLEASE let me do my job. Please let SSUSA staff do their job. Being micromanaged and questioned at every turn makes the job in this COVID environment that much more difficult. I promise that I am doing everything I can to put on the best possible event. Be patient just a bit longer and we'll be back on the field enjoying the game. It will happen.
