hacks,

Rules change proposals are considered at the annual convention (Dec 3-6). Message board posts won't be considered. If you want to get this item on the agenda, you'll need to quickly submit an email to Donna McGuire, our rules committee chair. donna@seniorsoftball.com

Include your name, age group, and contact information along with the specific request. Good luck.

If you shorten the bases in the 65 and above, that should save some time and I'll withdraw my request to go to a 1-1 count

I disqgree with you k man.
65' base paths lead to more runners beating throws and safely acquiring the bag. The 70' paths lead to more outs on the bases. Consequently, fewer batters come to the plate and more innings are played.

k man: Might not have thought of changes to make games faster with 65' bases, but I see more batters/base runners/beating a throw to the bases and it will be harder to get double plays.

k man, we all have our wishes. Mine is eliminating the extra foul. I did Utrip for years. When they eliminated the extra foul, it not only sped up the game; it also contributed to safety of the game. In my years of experience, a batter tends to go for a pitch that they normally wouldn't reach for to foul it off. This was nothing but a danger for catchers, umpires, on deck batters, people in the dugout, people watching from the sidelines, etc. I have noticed that seniors are much less likely to go after that extra foul compared to the younger players. No, I am not going to ask for a rule change. I know that I may be in the minority on that one.

Tim, DD and Nancy I actually made that comment in jest. But thinking about it, as I enter the 70s I figure I'm about 15% slower than I was in the 65's and with the bases going to 65 would be about 7% shorter I still come up about 8% slower to 1st base. lol But wait, I bat left-handed so I am probably at the 65 foot range even now. Maybe in fairness to all the years of the longer to 1st base for the righty batters we should reverse the order of the way we run the bases. Don't worry I'll throw that proposal in the circular file! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

From our team observation, the move to 70' bases brought the Dlb play back into the game. I did not hit into a DLB for at least 3-4 years at 65'

In the 1st year at 70', I hit into 3 in the 1st tournament.

65 footers might bring the infield in a little so the fielders can cover the bases quicker. This might leave a little more room for the single/bloop hitters to drop hits in between the infielders and out fielders. All I know is that in game 8-9 in a tournament. 70 feet is a long way down there.
