LVSSA/SSUSA SOUTHWEST CHAMPIONSHIPS 2019 • TENTATIVE Field Assignments
Dave, I know it is a huge and unthankful job matching over 200 teams with fields. I am hoping by "tentative" that means there is a chance that input can be considered before making the field assignments final. I understand if it can't, so I don't want this to come across as complaining. I'll play wherever you put us.

With that said, I don't understand why Major Plus teams are ever put on the BLD fields. They are way too short. Line drives to the gaps become home runs and pop-ups also carry out of the park. The men's 60 Major+ are tentatively scheduled for BLD.

To me, it would make more sense to swap the 16 60-AAA teams to BLD and move the 11 60-Major+ & 60-Major teams to Shadow Rock and Hollywood where the fences are more suited for Major+ and Major teams.

Just my 2 cents worth. If it is too late now, I hope that you will consider this in the future. Thanks for all you do to allow us to keep playing this game at our age.

I realize that you are not going to change this based on one person's input (no matter how valid it is!! :) ), but can you at least put the 60 Major Plus teams on the largest fields at BLD? Thanks for your consideration.

Murray, I'm sure this is not of any concern. In Kingman at the Spring Worlds they played 40's, all divisions and 60 Major Plus on 275' fields.

Dave and we saw posts about the fields being too short, so it was obviously of some concern. And as you said then, some of the BLD fields are shorter than the 275' Kingman fields.

MurrayW ... "Some of the fields at BLD.." refers to the Fenway Park LF "green monster" and the Yankee Stadium RF "porch", both of which are situated on the BLD property where they are because of the property line "pinch" on the west side of the park ... As for Kingman, there several other issues about how and why it came together the way it did, and it's both accurate and fair to say that a LOT of the criticism we endured is based on about 5% knowledge and 95% speculation, absent facts ... None of that includes a "..not of any concern.." attitude ... But that's normally the case here, we're used to it! ... Please look me up and we'll talk in LV ... I'm scheduled to be at BLD all six days ... Thanks!

Dave, Sure thing I will look you up at BLD and we can talk. It will be much better than this message board so you can see my intent and I can personally show you that I don't envy your job of having to match so many teams to fields. And I am not just complaining but trying to make a positive suggestion.

I'll be playing with Texas Crush 60's, #18. See you there.

Murray, you are the first player that I have ever heard iof that has asked to be moved from BLD to Shadow Rock which leads me to ask, have you ever played at Shadow Rock?
Unless they have done a major overhaul since last year the two grass fields are the worst fields to play on in Las Vegas. Both have knee deep weeds and clumps of grass. Not a good olace to play if you're an outfielder.
I think I would rather try and figure out how to keep the ball in the yard at BLD. Try using a league bat perhaps.
Just my 2 cents.
Good Luck.

FOFO, yes I have played at Shadow Rock. And a league bat is still not going to keep line drives to the gap and outfield popups from going out of some of the parks at BLD that are little league sized. As I said I will play wherever they put us, which is hopefully Dodger Stadium or Wrigley. Thanks for the well wishes and good luck to you this season as well.

Wrigley: L-280, LC-288, C-295, RC-288, R-280
Dodger: L-270, LC-300, C-315, RC-300, R-270
Crosley: L-270, LC-280, C-295, RC-280, R-270
Fenway: L-270, LC-285, C-300, RC-285, R-250
Yankee: L-265, LC-280, C-285, RC-280, R-275

Two words for ya. BAT CONTROL.......Work on it at BP and the dimensions of the fields won't matter.

Benji4, it's not all about our batting. We were eliminated from the World tournament a couple of years ago when our pitcher did his job and got the batter to pop-up in the bottom of the buffet inning. Unfortunately for us, that pop-up went about 278 feet for a home run that cost us the game. After the game, the person who hit it said it was the first home run he had hit in over 20 years and he wished his grandchildren were there to witness it.

I hear ya Murray. The turf infields are a plus but I get the short dimensions. BLD has made a lot of players league night heroes.

Good luck.

If shadow rock is so bad y do we play there? I don’t see lorenzee park this year? Wasn’t it decent?

youngen ... Lorenzi is only a 2-field complex (it used to be a four until last summer) and Shadow Rock is a four ... The scheduling by us and field prep work (under the direct control of LVSSA's major contribution to this event) are much more personnel-wise and economically feasible with a four rather than, say, two two's that would be required to match one four ... The same theory applies to the two-field Russell Road Complex in Henderson ...

On this line, I just have a question, and I am sure its a park availability issue as dictated by the various municipalities...

But if Lorenzi and Russel Road are two field complexes, why use the Bighorn Fields in Boulder City?

Like I said, just curious, and I am sure there is a logical reason.

I thought fences had to be at least 300 to be a sanctioned event.....seems like BLD , other than it's beauty, falls very short of these numbers...that is unless the fences are 30 feet high???

Lorenzi and Russell Rd. both have limitations that are not present at the Hemenway Fields @ Big Horn Park ... Russell Rd. has local league play that prohibits scheduling any games after 2:00 PM weekdays ... Lorenzi is costly prohibitive to lease, with rental rates historically at about 275% of the two-field facilities in Clark County (like Desert Bloom) or City of Henderson (Russell Rd.) ... There are also contract compliance issues related to the City of Las Vegas left over from last year's World Masters Championships ... We prefer not to risk a similar unilateral contract cancellation surprise in any other event ...

Fair enough. It is as I assumed.

Thank you for the detailed explanation.
