If the shoe were on the other foot...............
Looking over the 2019 SSUSA Tournament Schedule I wondered aloud. Granted I'm in Michigan and it looks like a 3rd. tournament has been added to my state BUT....aside from my softball friends in Canada and Ohio and some close to the state line IL & IN teams I don't see many teams from the South heading North to play in our tournaments. I understand that none are ring tournaments but a lot more Northern teams travel South to play than vice versa. Unless I missed one on the schedule I saw no SSUSA tournaments in Ohio. Now more Southern Tournaments have been added. If the shoe were on the other foot and the preponderance of SSUSA tournaments were in the North would your teams do the long drives that the Northern teams do? We add to the Southern tournaments and would like to see some different teams competing up here too. Not intended to be sour grapes, just asking the question.

Some of this is a timing issue. Northern teams do head south to play, but it seems to be in the early season or end of season when temps in Michigan are less than desirable. I work the Winter Nationals every year and am amazed by the number of players from the US north and Canada have 2nd homes in Florida.

Some of it is perception. There are teams from Florida and the Carolinas that travel north to play in Virginia and Maryland. There are also teams from the mid-Atlantic that consistenty travel north to Syracuse and south to Raleigh.

True enough about the early season. Not really counting VA as the North but of the 76 tournaments I think I counted 15 in the North and out of 24 SSUSA TOC qualifiers there are 3 in the North. Out of the 19 Recreational tournaments 1 is in the North. If I read it right, when the Northern teams that don't travel much get their first chance at a TOC berth tournament on July 9, Southern and western teams collectively have already had 12 opportunities at qualifying.
