Softball Venue Review Site- Senior Softball Addict
With Worlds starting in the next couple of weeks, I am sure there are people playing at venues that are unfamiliar to them. I put together a review site with pics/videos and info on how to prepare for each complex in Vegas and some surrounding areas. In addition to the videos, there is a short written review of each place that I hope will help some of you prepare better before the tournament hits.

This site is simple right now (1.0)-- nothing fancy. I am not a photographer and certainly not a web developer/designer, but the site is full of good stuff that hopefully will help someone. Every Vegas site has a video and short review. Very soon the site will allow all of you to add reviews of venues close to you.

The URL is seniorsoftballaddict.com. I don't try to sell anything-- just share info about where you will play. Please post comments on the site and add things I missed about a venue. It's all about making sure everyone has the information needed to have a fun tournament experience. Some of you travel far distances and spend significant amounts of cash to play in these tournaments- the site hopefully will help you enjoy your tournament a little bit more.

Enjoy!

Jon44 - Great idea and a great start to your site!
We are scheduled to play @ Hollywood Park which I played at about 12 years ago at a UTrip tourney but had forgotten about what it was like. But after seeing the pictures and your description (weeds - wind & an extra warning to lock your car!) it all came back to me. Even kind of remember how to get there!
Thanks for putting this together - hope it grows!
If I wasn't so computer stupid I could add some Nor. Cal. venues, but just posting this and getting my emails is pretty much the extent of my abilities on a computer! So hopefully more computer literate people will contribute some info. & photos on their "home" fields where senior softball tournaments are taking place!

Thanks for all of the comments-- it is a lot of work, but I really love doing it. The idea came because of the frustration I felt many times trying to get info on a new venue I never played. If you google a place, you get very little. I end up with a trunk full of crap for every possible scenario when going to a new place, most of which I never use. Admit it-- we have all been there!

I am working on Flagstaff (Thorpe) and the Mesquite, NV venues (Pioneer and Hunter), which I hope to have up shortly. I have CO coming soon, and expect Hemet, BLD Perris, and a couple others won't be far away either. I am especially excited about the CO review because it will be submitted by another player fresh off their trip to Rocky Mtn Championships.

I will have the site ready for others to submit reviews soon. My hope is others will see other cool places to play and teams go to new locations from time-to-time to see all of the other great places to play. You can only play at Hemet so many times... With all of your help, this could be really cool.

Jon44, nice job. Some really good info for all of the Senior Community. Nothing better than being prepared for what is at stake! Championships. I always enjoy going out to Vegas to watch the good softball. I don't gamble so I go to watch good ball games and to sell our product at Miken/Worth Sports Co. If it's ok I am going to put a link on my Facebook page for you to assist the players. ...

That would be great Mike-- It's appreciated! This site will get better and better as we add more and turn on the ability for others to add reviews, which is coming very soon. Hope to see you all in Vegas!

Well done 44 and thank you. We live behind the wall at the large field at Unity Park, Ivins, UT. Both field #1 (fenced around 200') and #2 (wide open)are used primarily for youth SB and BB. But #2 has town leagues for soccer and flag FB play on it. On field #2 they install short fencing. Last year the Huntsman Games used #2 on the first Thursday for 10 games for W 50 & 60 I believe.

My only complaint is no sport that requires grass/turf should play on the grass they have. It would be great around your home, but even when cut, the blades are too big and balls don't roll as fast which means less distance.

Oh yeah, for those who started using Unity Park for BP before games at the Canyons Complex or Gubler, (well dummy, your the one who told a couple of teams you played with about it) I've got a permit for Sunday Oct. 8th beginning at 4PM. 1600 hours for you jarheads! Oorah.

Just looked at the Little Valley video. Home owners may still have a law suit against St. G, but the fields were there first. The Huntsman SB schedulers try to put the younger men ages elsewhere, but there are guys over 65 who can clear those high nets.

Great site, looking forward to additional reviews.

Your poor rating of Shadow Rock definitely mirrors the disappointing experience we had there this past April. The two "grass" fields really suck and the wind is often an issue.

As of April 2018 the Hollywood fields had deteriorated further from the mediocre condition we found last September. Lots of weeds and uneven grass clumps that would likely be dangerous at night (we played past 10 pm in 2017).

Even with the lower quality of fields 5 and 6 at Sunset Park (beware of gopher/prairie dog holes on the warning track at Field #5), I'd still rate that venue a solid 3. Nice park and the other four fields are quite good.

I've had several of my 50's friends just get assigned to play at Desert Breeze and they are unfamiliar with the complex and have been asking questions. Here is the review: https://youtu.be/Oab3IKpaZD8
