Whats the proper format?
OK here goes, Score tied at the end of 6 innings, time has expired so what is the next step.
1) Start 7th inning with man on second and have open inning. 2) Start 7th inning as open inning, no runner on second. 3) Start 7th inning as an extra inning with man on second and not an open inning. Not sure of what is the proper format.

Did time expire as you were playing the 6th inning? Rule is as time expires in the inning you are playing in, you finish the inning and the next inning is an open inning so if time expired in the 6th in your example, 7th would be played as open with no runner at second. If scored tied after that inning is played (in your example the 7th), then you would go to tiebreaker rules, runner at second and still open inning. All extra innings are open. Hope that helps.

Pa, I know that we all have different experiences and opinions, but I have been involved with softball for 31 years, a lot of NSA and ASA with a little Utrip, ISA, and even WASA tournament experience besides the senior associations experience. I never remember anyone using 2 outs. Where was this and what association? This is just my opinion only, but that is a lot of overhead moving the teams for just 1 out although some teams might take more than a single batter to do it. I would want to move teams on and off the field as little as possible for the sake of time and potential health issues. None of the major associations used the runner on 2B until recently. Now what I have seen in tournaments that were not state, regional, or national was to go 1 pitch (full count, ball or strike, or any other names). I think changing the counts or the outs, especially in seniors, changes the nature of the game. We do tend to have senior moments when things are not the same the entire game and are more likely to mess up if they change at the end.

Pa, well I feel a little better, but I had to look up the acronym and think am correct that is Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation which probably does mean league. You see what I mean about our senior brains? The senior guys here do 2 half innings in the field, then the home team does 2, then 2 again, and then 1, 1, 1 to try to get 7 innings. It's always something; isn't it? We have one park that starts at 60 minutes and if last out is a minute or less on the clock, no new inning can start. Really? What's the point? Since that clock doesn't show seconds, it could actually be 1:59 minutes. Then you have people at the park that I am at cheering because they think that they won because they play at the other park. Fortunately I know these things to be able to reason with them.
