Crabtown Tournament
We're aware of more than 40 received in the SSUSA office, but most years additional teams enter directly with Don Brooks, the Tournament Director and those won't initially be in the count ... Safe answer is "..at least 40.."

Dave, that is because on the tourney page it says to send checks and entry directly to Don.

Correct ... And Don keeps us posted so we can do roster and rating compliance reviews, but once in a while there may be a couple days lag before he and the eligibility folks here are in sync! ...

When does the game times come out for this tournament?

There are some changes potentially happening with the 65s and 70s group which could impact start times for SAT morning play.

Rather than post start times, change them and re-post all teams should anticipate a SUN evening schedule release. It may be sooner.

Thanks in advance for your patience.

Tim Mowery-

There was no guarantee of a Sunday schedule release made. I am currently working in Reno but am also working on the Crabtown schedule.
A draft has been submitted for approval and I HOPE to release it on Monday.

If you play on a 60s team you will begin on Friday and finish on Saturday.

If you play on a 40s, 50s or 55s team you should plan for a Saturday morning start and a Sunday afternoon championship game.

MANAGERS will receive start times and bracket info before anyone else.

As always, thank you for being patient.

Tim McElroy

Sorry Tim although i know the lack of a participating teams list or a timely schedule will not cause anyone pain, it does give the appearance of an organization that is understaffed and inefficient in execution of some of the most basic tasks needed for a tournament. I think i'm just stating the obvious.

I think it is absolutely unacceptable that game times are not released yet. SSUSA needs to do a better job at releasing times a week in advance if not two weeks. Maybe deadlines to entering these tournaments should end sooner for this to happen. Again teams travel a considerable distance to play in these tournaments. Please start showing consideration for the players

This is hilarious! ... I wrote the Crabtown Classic 2017 schedule last year as a favor to the independent Tournament Director, Don Brooks ... The publication date was 05/29/2017, which was Memorial Day ... This year's schedule has been written, but not by me ... As Tim McElroy indicated above: A draft has been submitted for approval and I HOPE to release it on Monday. ... Not so coincidentally, today is also Memorial Day, and exactly the same number of days ahead of tournament start this year ... As usual, there is a vocal minority of "What have you done for me NEXT?" loudmouths who appear incapable of differentiating between when they WANT something as opposed to when they may NEED it, if ever ... This is right up there on the unintended comedy scale! ... Carry on! ...

Hey dave the only comedian is you and ssusa, you always find a way to justify everything this organization does.all we would like to know is when our division starts so we can make the arrangements to get a hotel for friday night or drive down on Saturday morning .some of us live 4 to 6 hours away ,have some considerations for the players that have to travel to get there, maybe we have to get off work early friday to travel down to play ! All we ask for is INFORMATION !!!!!

It appears that there is a breakdown in communication here. Managers received start times and other relevant information on the Crabtown Classic earlier today.

Strictly my opinion here, but anyone driving 6 hours to play in a tournament should strongly consider a hotel room.

Well tim every time i play SPA and ISSSA they have the brackets and start times out 10 days before the tournament starts, not 3 days prior to the start of the tournament.strictly my opinion here but maybe ssusa should hire the person that does there scheduling so you won't have this problem !!!! Strictly my opinion !!!!

big unit ... Seems like you may wish to limit your participation to SPA and ISSA since they apparently meet your desires better ... Personally, and strictly "my opinion", which is the new buzz-phrase, I would probably put that in the file folder marked "Addition by Subtraction" ... Good luck!

big unit - I don't work for SSUSA but I try and challenge "inaccuracies" when I come across them. We played in the SPA even earlier this year and received our 1st game time ONLY Tuesday morning before the tourney (our manager was contacted Monday evening).

Now "my opinion" - Honestly, not a fan of the hats we get for placing at SSUSA events, I donate mine to the VA hospital but I am not there for a hat (though there was a time when I liked the t shirts from ISSA but most of those have been replaced). Would have liked to have won the jerseys being offered at the ACC but we all know how that one went (some of us didn't get to play at all). I BELIEVE that the delay in schedules were due to teams entering Crabtown late because we didn't get to play in Loudoun (we couldn't get enough guys but we thought about it). Also the travel time (Don back to TX and Tim to Reno, I know this because I asked, was easy enough :-)

I agree that ISSA is doing a pretty good job with their schedules but they have made a few changes to help that; money needs to be paid a month ahead of time, they use Quick Scores but are able to because of the double elim which SSUSA does not (they do 5GG for most big tourneys, ISSA and SPA are usually 4GG).

And yes, Dave's response's usually make me laugh (apologies they were directed at you) but what do you expect? I have had disagreements with some of their policies but when I do, I don't come on THEIR message board with my gripes, I call the office.

Finally, I am a big "it is what it is" kinda guy. Do I wish there are things that could be done better, sure, but I am grateful to still be playing a game that I love. My apologies if I have offended anyone, not my intention but had some free time on my hands this morning and am usually "full of opinions" (just ask my wife! lol)

Best of luck to all the rest of the season!

Not an easy task to run n coordinate the largest softball organization! SSUSA is that...don't agree with all the policies, but respect that they are doing the "Hard" so many can enjoy fun tourneys! Imagine if we went back to just local Tourney Directors...Ugh...looking forward to competing in Vegas again! Aloha, Fabe

Tim,

we know you are not working in Reno, and Dave is relaxed with his feet up. Now to get to the heart of this thread. Yes, it would be nice to see the brackets posted, I like to print them out and have it with me at the field to keep it updated, instead of having to walk 4 fields to see what the next game time is.

We know teams get added and dropped that part of the business / game.

You can always pass the work on to Steve Preston, its not like he has anything to do (lol)

See you fellas this weekend ~!!

I understand it's on a need to know basis and apparently i don't have the proper clearances but again I'll ask does the 60 AAA bracket consist of a best of 3 series and when will it start if that is the case. People do have need to plan their everyday lives even when there is a softball tournament. Thank you

The same issue here as it happened at Loudon. Rain forecasted through out the week and weekend, but the tourney will not be canx because of the SSUSA rule. However, all of you driving from out of town WILL look at the forecast and don't believe it...drive knowing the circumstances and then get mad that it was canx. Guess what you do next time, the same thing. Please don't blame SSUSA blame you and your coaches that are not willing to take a stance. Personally, if I had a team I will not play anymore SSUSA tournaments. Especially after Dave response...which I found it to be very disrespectful and arrogant to say the least...They SSUSA are not the only show in town. It will be nice if all of the East coast teams boycott their fancy Vegas tournament...it will be interesting to see how their tone changes...Good luck!

The entry cutoff was may17th, today is May30th and there is still no bracket posted. I know coaches have been notified of game times. It is nice to be able to look at the bracket to see how your day may go, or to check schedules of other teams in other age brackets.

Man this is a funny topic.
What happened to the days when the tournament director called and said your team plays at 8:00am Saturday at City Park. End of phone call.'
You showed up and played whatever team that was in the other dugout. I know someone is going to say but the entry fees are $500. Well I can say 500 is a lot easier than $150 was in those days to come up with and the tournament was a straight double elimination 2 and done was something you had to live with.

mck 71 I don't find anything that you said to be offencive at all, I get a kick out all the responses that Dave and Tim come up with.it really just shows how unprofessional the two of them are, they act like ever thing they do is always correct, and there are no flaws in ssusa policies ! lets face it there are always things that can be improved in any system. instead of acknowledging that there are things that ssusa can improve on they want to come back at me with there class clown remarks!!! I love IT !!!! by the way Dave I do play more SPA and ISSSA !!!!

Thanks SS13 - we are one of the victims of the SSUSA rule as we have to travel 5 to 6 hours to play. Had to eat the 535 for Loudon because spending an extra grand on hotels and food for a one day tournament was unrealistic. So we actually saved money. But it is their rule and if we want to play softball we have to take that chance. When the tourney is held in Syracuse in July we have be the close team and others will have to make the decision if it rains. Hopefully it wont.

There is one thing being forgotten about the possible rain during the tournament. The county is very protective of the Bachman Park fields and they do not let the fields get torn up, so any consistent rain will make it very likely that the games won't get played..

To clarify-

Saturday play has been canceled.
Sunday play is pending (not currently raining here).
The parks staff will re-evaluate the fields later this afternoon.

Current plan is to play ball on Sunday using a revised format. 3 game guarantee brackets for all divisions.

All coaches have been called with revised start times / field assignments. Messages were left for those that didn't answer the phone. A copy of the updated schedule will be posted to the SSUSA website in the next hour or so.

Here we f****** go again! Just cancel the damn tournament! 100% chance of rain Sunday with flash flooding! You LOVE wasting peoples time and money! Why hold teams hostage!!!! You cancelled today's games and it hasn't rained yet! You should be ashamed of how you handle these situations! No wonder you're trying to sell your organization!
