Oxnard Rookies are going. It's our last tournament in 55 AAA. We had to play 55 Major in the Winter Worlds because 1 of my guys took 3rd in the 50 AAA and his rating got bumped up too with that team. So on paper, we had 4 guys rated 55 Major.

SSUSA said A 40-AAA moves up as a 50-AAA, same is true with a 40-Major (to 50-Major) or 40-Major+ (to 50-Major+) ... here is my Question again
i was just asking if your a 50 major then you would be a 55 major according to what you said in this feed

I had 2 major guys play in 2017, in 55AAA. We played in the Worlds in Las Vegas. One of my 55AAA players went the following weekend to Las Vegas with a Top Gun 50AAA- they placed 3rd.

I went to register for the Winter Worlds 2017, the start of the new year for SSUSA- and I tried to add a 60 Major+ player to our roster, he would of been our 3rd Major player in 55AAA. But they told me 2 of my guys had been re-rated because of Top Guns 3rd place finish in 50AAA. One of my guys that didn't even make the trip with Top Gun, was re-rated because he was on their roster. They immediately dropped his rating back to 55AAA when that was pointed out. The other guy was a substitute who played in half their games and hit .284,he got re-rated to 50 Major- and they wouldn't re-classify him to 55AAA.
So we had little re-course but to sit and fight it, or accept it and move up. The funny thing is we tied for last place in the World Championships out of 40 teams- and we only hit 7 or 8 home runs with the Rock ball- in 5 games. Now they are going to allow us to hit 30 home runs in 5 games. Makes sense right
And that 60M+ guy has 2 lifetime HRs- inside the park type. Go figure

it is a hard job rating people and seeing how they play so they do whole teams does not matter what he hit as a average and anyone could say he sucked or was just a runner. The person new the chances he took when he went to play with a team and what sucks is he has to live with it and play down as a chip and apply at the end of the year and hope they rerate him but it may take 2 years. I am in the same spot playing with a major team and can not throw a ball over hand but can still hit good but i am a chip to triple a even being 57 years old ssusa said no to rerating me so my softball days are numbered as to playing because i can not throw.

Uncle Mike,

Which is why players should carry the rating at their age group. The example being that if you're on a 55AAA team, and then you also play on a 50AAA team that gets bumped, you should carry the rating as a 55 year old. I see teams with guys that do double duty in two age groups and the older team can suffer roster-wise because of the rating criteria, You're sort of penalized if you are older and perhaps good enough to play in a lower age division. In this scenario, at the end of the day you're still over 55. Just my take.

Tony ... To play "devil's advocate" a bit, and not intending to start an argument, if you're good enough to play at the younger (and now higher rated) level, that shouldn't put all of your opponents in that lower level at a disadvantage because you're playing out of rating by two clicks on the R/I scale ... Related issue: We are continually amazed at the number of times it comes up where the player has "forgotten" to inform his manager that he took a weekend and "..played for ABC team because our XYZ team wasn't playing.." ... That problem sits squarely "on the player" ...

Dave,

There are "arguments" on both sides. I agree that the problem sits squarely on the player, but that player is still playing maybe one or two age groups down from their actual age. That's great for the player who has the ability to do it, but at the end of the day the player and his XYZ team gets penalized.

I played 60 Major Plus in Vegas and after getting eliminated, played one game with my old 55 Major team. They finished 3rd and got re-rated to Major Plus. My guess is that I now have the Player Rating Index for a 55 Major Plus player. Having played both 55 and 60 there is a difference, particularly from a defense and overall team speed aspect.

This issue could be discussed/debated ad-nauseam and never come to mutual agreement. Until then, we'll just keep playing on.

Happy New Years to you and yours.

Dave how is Jose Conseco on a 40 major team his skill level is one of the highest there is now to me this is where the rating is messed up. I believe he hits the ball as hard as anyone and you are letting him play down where the skill level is not up to par even though we have a ego and think we can catch a ball coming off his bat at higher speeds then anyone they have ever played with. This is why you or ssusa has to step up and tell individuals they can`t play down.

We are also getting at a age where there is not alot of guys to pick from and i understand it is growing now but in 5 or 6 years it will have a fall off just like we did in the 90s we are at a point now where back in the late 80s and early 90s USSSA had the most teams ever to play softball at tournaments then a big fall off.

Pa ... We don't publicly discuss individual players here because almost all posters (including you) misrepresent the player's accurate rating index ("R/I") experience history, thereby creating a false inference about the specific player ...

That being said, here's the general rule ► A player who has attained age 50+ and also plays 40-Major (R/I=9) may play unrestricted on a 50-Major+ (R/I=9) team or as one of the three allowed "out of rating" roster players on a 50-Major (R/I=8) team, assuming he is otherwise eligible as to residency ... Please note that SSUSA does NOT rate players; we simply track the ratings of the teams they play with at the time(s) they played with the team ... We do not have an "impact player list" that would categorize individual players separate from other members of the team ...

Pretty funny ftroop13 ... Uncle Mike veered off the T.O.C. highway into the "ratings jungle" and a few others piled into the back of the pickup truck for the ride! ... Nothing like the most tiny opening to wedge into the ratings/roster critique discussion! ...

To nudge this back on point, the teams entered list will be released shortly after the entry deadline of January 3rd ... Good luck! ...

Pa ... I'm scheduling a minimum five-game-guarantee for all teams ... The only thing that could change that would be adverse weather implications which are outside of our control ... Larger divisions will generally play a two-game round robin to seed three-game-guarantee brackets ... A few divisions will play a three-game round robin into double elimination brackets ... There will NOT be any "round robin only, best record wins" type format this year ...
