what is correct call
Runners on first and second. Batter hits ball up the middle & it glances off pitchers chin guard into the runner as he left 2nd base. We called dead ball & hit runner out.
Cannot find ruling.

since the batted ball did not pass a fielder (pitcher does not count)it is a dead ball batter awarded 1st base and all runners advance if forced to do so....runner is not out once ball makes contact with a defensive player...if the ball passed a defensive player then hit the runner you would have a live ball play on

I believe the fact that the batted ball made contact with the pitcher and redirected to hit the runner would simply make this a live ball play...

B94 you are correct....the pitcher would be considered an infielder in this scenario because the ball went off his shin guard ...9.2 • THE BALL IS IN PLAY......D. When a fair ball strikes an umpire or base runner on fair ground after passing or touching an infielder.
