Posted | Discussion |
March 25 Kev Men's 65 12 posts | I am fairly new to the senior softball having played mostly in recreational slowpitch league where we use .52 cor 275 compression balls. I may have the opportunity to play on a 65+ AA tournament team. I believe they play in ASA and USSSA tournaments. My 2016 Melee 2 and Miken Big Cat Ultra 2 do not have ASA stamps only SSUSA. Will it be necessary for me to get a bat stamped ASA for ASA tournaments? Is there someplace to get a clear written information for bats allowed in ASA, ISA, SSUSA, etc? Also like to know where the .44 cor 375 compression balls and .52 cor 275 compression or used/allowed? |

If you want to play in ASA or SSUSA you will have to get bats that those associations approve. In SSUSA they use the Trump Stote in all tournaments (44/375) except for the World Tournament in Vegas where they use the Rock (44/375). Hope that helps. |
March 25 Kev Men's 65 12 posts | Thank you misouridave. It appears the more popular tournaments for senior slow pitch players is SSUSA and then ASA? I went and looked at USSSA website and see they are not specifically slow pitch softball but cover several different sports. |
March 25 Fred S Men's 85 297 posts | I believe that Senior bats are allowed in ASA Tournaments only but not in league play. Not sure about the ball but I would guess they would be 52/300's as that is the official ASA ball |
March 25 missouridave Men's 60 166 posts | Kev, We don't play any ASA around here as there do not appear to be any senior tourneys close to us. In my opinion SSUSA has the most tourneys, then I think ISSA (which is mostly East Coast but we did play in one last year in Tenn) then probably ISA where we usually play in their Senior World in Indiana. USSSA is really geared toward the younger guys and we played lots of those back in the day. Good luck. |
March 25 TexasTransplant Men's 70 516 posts | Kev, I see you live in TN. In addition to the associations listed above, SPA (Softball Players Association) conducts many tournaments in the Southeast. You senior bats will be acceptable in SPA. If USSSA has any significant senior presence, I am not aware of it. |
March 26 Kev Men's 65 12 posts | Thank you all. These comments give me a clearer picture of the senior softball associations and what bats/balls are acceptable. Any additional comments are welcomed. Maybe the 2017 Miken DC-41 SuperMax with ASA stamp might be good to have in the bag just in case. |
March 26 Fred S Men's 85 297 posts | The DC41 is a very hot bat right out of the wrapper. The ball just jumps off the bat. It does have a significant end load 1 oz. If you want a lighter end load the Freak PT is just as good with a .05 oz end load. I have a 30oz DC41 and by BP buddy has a 27 oz PT and he loves his. We do BP together so we get a pretty good comparison of the two. I think the DC41 is better because of the extra weight but you can't go wrong with either one. |
March 27 ju25 Men's 60 236 posts | ASA and USSSA both have senior associations but they are scarce. Both allow senior bats and ASA uses the 44/375 ball while USSSA uses 40/325 Classic M. If not senior sanctioned ASA uses 52/300 ball and ASA stamp bats while USSSA uses either the 40/325 Classic M or the 52/275 Classic M+ with USSSA stamp bats. 44/375 is the official ball for most senior sanctioned tournaments. |
March 27 ju25 Men's 60 236 posts | Here are some websites: SPA(softballspa.com) ISSA(seniorsoftball.org) ASA(tournamentusasoftball.com) USSSA(usssa.com) click on slowpitch |
March 27 Jethro Men's 60 60 posts | I totally agree with Fred S.. in ASA you can't go wrong with those bats. In senior bats allowed tourneys..the Miken Big cat orange!! |
