Summys Nighthawks now Summys Demolition ?
I see in the Top Gun Tournament for this weekend that Demolition is now Summys Demolition. Is Summys Nighthawks no more ??? They were a great team and a great group of guys over the years.

Nope ... Both the Summy's Nighthawks and Summy's Demolition return to the fields as 60-Major+ teams ... It appears that only Summy has changed his sponsor's support affiliation ... They are both in the same bracket in Hemet this weekend ..

Thank you for your kind words regarding our team, the Nighthawks. It has always been important to us to be respectful of our opponents and model old school good sportsmanship.

Not that anyone asked, but I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank our sponsor. For seven years we had the privilege and good fortune to receive very generous support from David Sommerville (aka Summy). In that time we won two Major Plus World Championships, along with a 2nd and a 3rd in Major Plus. David decided to consolidate his support on the amazing group of players, Sommerville Softball, who are moving to the 55 age group after years of excellence in the 50's. Summy's 55 team, run by my good friend and teammate, Bully Kramer, has also been retired. Sponsoring one team is amazing, the fact that David sponsored three teams for the past several years is almost beyond comprehension. We move to our next adventure with only gratitude and appreciation for THE SUMMY!

While I considered folding the Nighthawks 60's tent at the end of last year, and the players certainly had options to move to other teams, the team decided they wanted to stay together as a group. Just when I thought I was out, they drag me back in! :>{) I've been blessed and honored for many years to serve this great group of guys as manager, and as a player until the hip wore out. With a few exceptions of guys moving up in age, virtually all our team returns for this year. We also have couple of guys who played with us previously who can play with us again since they've hit the magic 6-0.

While sponsorship is a rare and wonderful privilege, the cameraderie and friendships on this team have been and remain the main reason we stay together. This will actually mark the 11th year this team has existed, the first two years were in the 50's as Evolution.

We look forward to continuing to play the game we've all loved since childhood, and enjoying the countless friendships we've made over the years. See you on the fields!

Doesn't matter what this team is called they are a great group of players and true sportsmen! We always look forward to battling this group as they are certainly one of the best 60 major plus teams on the planet! We hope to see you at several tournaments this year!

Don, As I have told you many times you are a class guy. Im grateful to call you friend. I always valued your participation and sense of humor. I was so sad to hear the rumors that the team and you were retiring. Now Im excited to have your team back once again this year. Take care of that hip my friend. God bless

Happy New Year, Audie! Thank you for your kind words. It was, is, and will continue to be an honor to compete against you, your brother, Patty Mac, and the rest of the warrior gentlemen from the Hollis organization. Congrats on your fantastic win in Vegas at the Worlds. We hope to have the privilege of playing you again down the road.
Don

Marv - thanks also for your kind words. And thank you for the work you do to provide us So CA locals with another option to play locally against good competition on nice fields. Say what you will, we were all playing on horrible, fence-less soccer fields at Yorba Regional or Peralta not that long ago. Kit Carson is no picnic either. When anyone is inclined to complain about SCSSA, or SSUSA, or the gents from Top Gun, just remember what we used to have in this area. JMHO! See ya'll on the fields, limp and all!!
