Pay to play a quality tournament
I just heard that I am driving all the way from Tucson to Flagstaff for Mountain Madness and I'm playing 3 games on Saturday and only one game on Sunday. And one of them games on Saturday is a 1 pitch. Where is all the money going that the teams are paying. I heard there are a lot of teams that are playing in this tournament. If there's too many teams to put on a quality tournament, then there should be a limited amount of teams in the tournament. But that would mean the director wouldn't make all that money. I'm paying $90 to play one game on Sunday, come on. Does anybody else have a problem with this, or is it just me.

Just you I guess.
So each player has to pay $90.00 on Sunday or is that the team?

It appears this tourney is a non-qualifier. This is the reason I don't play non-qualifiers in Az anymore. They play 3 pool games and a single elimination on Sunday. Who needs 3 practice/warm-up games. Especially, if you only have 10-12 players and your team is older. Alot of these tourneys don't announce the format until you arrive and it's to late to cancel anything.

Randy, I am with you a 100 percent. You can look at my past posts and see my issue with this tourney provider. I have told our club that we need to just cut him out. But the bad thing is, he has the only game in the state (other then a few tourneys in Anthem and Pinetop) and if we want to play somewhat locally, we have to pay him and put up with his rules.
At the end of the day big guy, we can either deal with this guy and do what we love which is to compete ..... or .... watch this Senior Softball message board and make snarky comments to people we do not even know.
See ya this weekend.

You could start organizing tournaments yourself. All it takes is a very small amount of capital and a very large amount of time.

The only skill needed is basic math and the ability to babysit a couple hundred adults :)

A superior product will generally take market share away from an inferior one.

But, like everything else in like, it's easier to complain about it than to take any action.

Rick Seifman the director is the only reason nobody should play tournaments in Arizona.

Rick doesn't give three shits about softball just $$$$ in his pocket and how fast he can go home on Sunday. Dude has been doing it for years. I lived in AZ for 22 years and quit playing in his tournaments 10 years ago.....

I'll guarantee there are many more people who would complain about him than defend him.....

Thanks DC. Just feel people's pain for crap rick does. USSSA is going to push for more senior tournaments in Arizona so maybe there will be better options soon.

And you know very well I have no problem being brutally honest...hahaha

"""Hey Joncon, I asked for opinions, not a Jackass response!"""

But, you didn't specifically say "no jackasses" so.......

If you need someone to agree with you and join in the complaining, it aint gonna be me. I just complain about the complainers lol :)

Rick is a solid guy all around IMO. I certainly wouldn't want his job. Nobody is going to make everyone happy and softball players (young and old) are a whiny bunch.

Just play and have fun or stay home and have fun. It seems simple enough.

USSA is a great organization they rule young man's ball, just bought up a lot of the field's around Disney.I sure wish they would push for senior ball at liberty & canton in Detroit.Thos places have enough field's to take care of 100 team tourney I think liberty has 16 field's & they are nice, that mike is trying hard but need's some help from tony D.

One thing about u-trip they tell you like it is you might not like what they have to say , but they will let you know how thing's will be at there tourney's,& won't change on you in the middle of the stream.

Amen to that......Would be nice especially at Canton but I heard that the complex was taken over by the township. Don't know that for a fact but heard the rumor just the same. Both gentlemen are deeply invested in USSSA & Slow-Pitch and it's a shame that Senior Ball has not developed into a much larger entity within the Metro Detroit region. Fond memories of many, many games at both Liberty & Canton.

Thought I would throw this discussion around the board one more time.
I understand that the tourney director (name listed above and never mentioned by me, ever) called the initial author and threated to throw his club (a club that he was subbing for) out of the Flagstaff event if he did not stop asking questions.
Full disclosure, I would learn Saturday that there were 5 games scheduled for this tourney. Thank you tourney director.

So, you "heard" that Rick called and said he would "throw the club out if he didn't stop asking questions".

Didn't that sound just a little far fetched?

Instead of hearsay, present some evidence and I will believe you. Until then, the story will get exaggerated with every telling. Pretty soon Rick will be a serial killer.

When you hear one side of the conversation, it will ALWAYS be edited to favor the plainiff's case. When repeated, different words are used and the context may change. We learned that in grade school.

Y'all sound like a bunch of gossipy old women lol

I'm not the brightest guy in the world and I don't know the whole story......... but I do know enough not to come to conclusions without all the facts.

Jonjon,
Thank you for hitting this post so it could take another trip around for people to be warned about Arizona area tourneys.
This many folks cannot be wrong, jealous or "gossipy".

I spoke to the USSSA senior director in Arizona and we will be working on providing a few good tournaments for seniors at good parks in Arizona.

Not trying to take away from SSUSA but just provide a respectable service with good balls, and a set of rules to be strictly followed.
And if we don't like you we will still let you play.

Joncon even though you drank the (seifman) Kool-Aid you can still play in our tournaments. hahaha

I think that's great! Instead of whining, you are actually taking steps to offer a choice.

I will follow the development and maybe come to your defense some day when people start complaining about the way you handle the omnipresent softball drama :)

It's amazing you guys still keep playing and keep bitching. What is it with senior softball, 75% of players all they do is bitch and complain about one thing or the other there never happy. You bitch about the balls, you bitch about sun in your in your eyes, you bitch about everything. What ever happened to learning to play and adjusting to the elements and learning to hit the ball that the tournament decides to use, single the other teams to death.

Get boonie to run a few tournaments, he's always running his mouth about one thing or another or about some player or director he dislikes, lets see what he can do........

nickname36, it is not bitching.

Us old guys (U B 40 or so??) have been playing for
many years. What has happened (small List)

WAS
7 INNINGS NOW 4 TO 7
1.5 HOURS or unlimited time.. now 40 to 50 min +1 most of time
cost per tour was $50 to $125, now $395 OR SO TO $750
Team Rating this is tough, all will not always be happy.

This is just a small list but seems to be very important
to most of the ballplayers I know.

James

LOL on the age comment, would like to jump back to 40
and have another go at it all.

Bullhead City runs two great Senior Tournaments per year. They are Recreational non-qualifiers and they usually get about 80 teams every Spring and Fall. They always tell you in advance whether or not it will be a 5 game guarantee or a 6 game guarantee. Of course it is impossible to satisfy everyone, but the organizers put a ton of effort into making sure that 'the little things' are attended to. They have maintained numbers in the 70-80 team range for the past 6 years, so I guess they are doing something right. I know that they have some new staff that are getting to know how the whole tournament runs, and the City of Bullhead just broke ground on three brand new ball diamonds at Rotary Park. If you aren't happy with the Seifman tournaments, why not give Bullhead a try?

KP&R wasn't whining. He was just offering an alternative.... albeit in Bullhead city :)

And yeah Three Six, I did get old. If we're lucky, it happens :)
