Rich, were you interested in officiating any games this year? I know that you mentioned it last year. Thanks.

Sessions #1 and #2 comprised of age groups 60+ and more senior will be posted this (Thursday) afternoon ... The weekend is a bit more complex, but count on Saturday game times beginning on all six fields at 7:30 AM with last games on Saturday night being at 10:30 PM (or later) ... We should be publishing those schedules sometime late Friday or over the weekend ...

P.S. - Calls to the SSUSA office asking the same "when" question actually slows down the process because of the time required to answer it over and over ... They will be posted here FIRST, within moments of getting final approval ...

Neck10, I talked with Butch this morning and told him that the gate on Diamond 3 is still the same in case you needed to contact Dave about not wanting to be scheduled on that field. The good thing is that your umpire that day will not be working this year. I saw your good friend, John, down in Columbus last weekend.

The gate is closed, and the balls still go through...especially on a wild throw from the shortstop.

Neck10, American Ninja Warrior is filming on the Circle next week. I checked, and they have no gates. Are you competing?

Nancy- Had a nice chat with Tony. Advised don't want to take money out of other UMPs pockets but would be willing to "fill-in" if needed. I'll bring my gear just in case. Once 50's brackets are out Tony is going to call me...

I hope to get downtown and watch you compete in American Ninja Warrior. Best of luck to you in anything that you do compete in this week, my friend.

What is the weather forecast there????

Looks like rain, rain and more rain??? At least on the reports I see here in Cleveland,

I know weather cant be controlled but as a sponsor, I hate spending $2K on motel rooms all weekend for wash outs.

Nancy you got any pull with the man upstairs :):):):)

17Black. Agree and not sure what protocol call is with TD. No disrespect to the TD, but how do you handle rain outs ? Would you call off a day in advance or will it be game time decisions ?

Rich33------LOL :)

I just "googled" Indianapolis weather this weekend.

Saturday 100% chance of rain

Sunday 100% chance of rain.

100% = 100% & is kind of daunting.

We've got 5/6 hour drive, one way, depending which side of Cleveland our guys are coming from.

We have late 3PM start Saturday but I have a couple guys whose kids are graduating college Saturday AM and are literally jumping in their car between 11 and noon and driving 85/90 MPH to get to games on time as soon as their kids get diploma's.

Most guys coming in Friday night.

between entry fee and motel, its about $2400 bucks +++-------

$2400 also = $2400

I'd rather get games in at $300 to $500 avg. per game LOL, than $2400 for ZERO games, if they can call it ahead of time, although I suspect somebody from SSUSA office also paid to fly and sleep there too :)

17Black. I'm a weather geek. Actually a Storm Chaser/Spotter, so I'm always looking at radar and forecasts. Doesn't look good for INDY this weekend. :o(
We also have players driving down Sat nite - from Chicago. I'm driving down early Sat AM.

Washed out Friday & Saturday in Raleigh a few years back. Sunday modified to 5 innings and single elim format. Remarkable effort by the TD for getting the fields playable but hardly worth the investment. Indy: 14 rooms x 2 nights x $$$ + entrance fee + travel costs add up.

17black, you know that softball and the players are always in my prayers. I firmly believe that Midwest has the best grounds crew in the U.S. Teams are playing right now, and we were smoked by severe storms last night and this morning. I doubt that we would be playing at most parks, but the grounds crew attacked those fields, and they are in pretty good shape, definitely feel good, and everyone looks and sounds happy.

Nancy--------OK we will have to go with what you suggest, I guess????

I have till tonight to cancel motel rooms, if I wait till tomorrow, if washed out, we still have to pay.

Just like anybody else, I don't want to lose $2,000+++ and twelve hours total driving both ways if not needed though.

Its like a monsoon and 44 degrees in Cleveland right now, today.

It the weather forecast for Indianapolis said 80% chance of rain, instead of (100%)I'd feel at least a little better about this. And look below, I just looked again 100% chance of rain BOTH days, not 99%, it says 100% :)

Sat 30 Rain 100%

61°

55°

Sun 1 T-Storms 100%

64°

48°

Please note that all "play/no-play" decisions will be made by Tournament Director Tim McElroy at the fields of play at game time ... That is the standard SSUSA Tourney Administration policy for potential inclement weather ... Tim prepared and executed an outstanding recovery program this morning for Thursday/Friday ... Plan on playing the entire slate of games on the weekend ... The maximum amount of forecast precipitation through Sunday afternoon is insignificant when compared to the amounts received overnight Wednesday ... Good luck everyone! ...

I just found out that it's National Superhero Day. The grounds crew, Tim, and the umpires are mine on this day of honoring them. Even American Ninja Warriors delayed filming last night because of the storms. Of course my number one superhero is Coachie who loved senior softball so much.

While we are under the rain delay. Is there a 55 AAA coach in the area interested in discussing the possibility of adding an Indiana based player for future tournaments? I am currently playing for Blue Grass 50s based out of KY but eligible to play the 55 (DOB 9-60) division as well.

Ground crew??? Fields are a mess and haven't seen ground crew all day.Asked for a broom or squeegee to push off standing water around the bases on a couple fields and was told that "they are all locked up".We did get the games in Playing till midnight.Better weather today.

titanhd, they worked on the fields after the 1:00 AM finish and have been working like zombies all week. We did look in the small garage for anything like that. They don't have squeegees but use some kind of absorbent pillows. All of that equipment is in the big barn across the parking lot. The grounds crew took a couple of hours to rest until the diamonds were firm enough to support dragging. I hear the equipment doing diamonds between games now. Sorry, I am really proud of them for all that they have done on a challenging five days. I wish you the best of luck in your games. I compliment your team and the others for great play this weekend.

Everyone wants to play games, but the field conditions after the Saturday morning rains came left these fields in horrible shape. Even though the sun came out Sunday, there was just too much water that had come down on them. A better understanding of the facilities ability to get fields in playing shape should also be known before hand. There comes a time when players safety must become the top priority. That was not the case this weekend.
