Need a Tracker in Modesto/Escalon/Oakdale/Riverbank, California
My sister is going through a huge grief scenario in Escalon and we need assistance. She has horses and cats. These past weeks, two dogs come to her farm in the night and kill kittens and cats. She has no peace and does not know what to do but she comes out in the morning and finds dead cats in the yards. It is very traumatic. She did get a picture of a big animal that came up to the camera last night.

If there is anyone in the Modesto/Escalon/Riverbank/Oakdale area that can help, please contact them ASAP. My sis is the utmost animal lover and this is killing her to find her animals torn to pieces in the mornings.

I will and they will be ever grateful for help and assistance.

Thanks very much,

When we lived out of the city limits, I always put up my animals up at night. It is more than likely wolfes as this species is constantly being hunted and killed. Many predators have been displaced due to human population growth in their territories.

There isn't really much else you can do except trap these animals for release in a more remote location, or kill them yourselves.

swing it is more likely dogs as coyotes will eat the cats....dogs will just kill them and leave them...coyotes think they are a delicacy....like the OP said her cats are found dead the next morning in the yard.......thats more like dogs......i'm constantly running dogs off my place....use my judge and #6 bird shot to the buttocks to chase them off......

Ed, I went by your sisters house last week, no answer at the door, verified the address, but no answer. WE have had some mountain lions over the past few years here in Escalon. Did you see the picture she took, but its probably a large dog, not a lion. Two nights ago My daughters 15 year old family goat was killed at her place right next to mine, along with a neighbors cat on her front porch. The killers were two large Husky dogs, a male and female, they had trapped the female inside my swimming pool fence and was trying to contain her, the male stalked my granddaughter (23 years old) and she was able to turn and scare the dog back. The female slithered under a gap in my fence and the both ran to the back of my barn. The sheriffs arrived and said they could not shoot the animals, Animal Control came out the NEXT morning and the dogs were gone. The dogs went after two horses and several cows, but they didn't get them...
This morning 5 baby lambs were killed right next to my property and the traps were set, so far these dogs have killed at least 8 animals that I know of.... I've been gone for almost two weeks, had I been home, there would have been 2 dead dogs laying out on county property..... I just got back yesterday and am heading to the TOC. I hope your sister is doing ok now... My daughter is getting a gun NOW!!

You can try a couple of things that has worked at my ranch, these wild animals most of them fear humans, what I did is went to local car dealership, also local warehouse with outdoor smoking area and emptied out there smoking area of cigarette butts with off course human scent on all, I then spread the scent along property line. I have also soaked the biggest sponges I could find at store in cooked cooking grease which your local diner will have, The animals hopefully will eat the sponges then they will not be able to digest the sponge material and die. I know this works with coyotes and believe it will work wild dogs. Good Luck

We have friends in Montana who had a similar problem and they got a couple Airdale Terriers to patrol the property as well as being house pets and the problem was solved.

Thanks:

SilverGhost,

Other animals are also attracted to greasy sponges. Very inhumane, and not very thoughtful. We used to board horses, and I made sure personally they were always put up at night secure and in the barn. Had a couple of geese, with a very good shed to put them in at night. Had a big silver wolf come up one night, but with all the sounds the geese made, and my brother shooting his shotgun in the air. Never saw it again. I suppose it went back down to the creek where we used to find many of their tracks.

Why cottontail rabbits were put on this earth. Wolf food.

FYI ~ They are hunting the crap out the wolves, and they will become extinct if we're not careful. They are very vital to the ecosystem if you believe or not.

Thanks to all who responded with helpful information and serious criteria. Don, a tracker came to my sister and brother in law's. They placed cameras and got photos of the dogs. There were two dogs and it turns out the owners of the dogs are just off of Droge Road. The animal control officers let them know and the owner stopped by to see my sis and said sure enough they were her dogs. She promised to keep them in their compound and if they got out again and killed more cats, they would put them down. My sister has been sleeping better these past few nights. Let me know how you do/did at TOC.
Thanks, Ed
