John X. E. McAndrew's Viewing
I just arrived home from attending XE McAndrew's viewing in Archbald P.A. In another thread on this website there are several testaments as to what a great man XE was, in addition to being a great softball player and athlete. Anyone who attended the viewing tonight knows there is no need for words to express what a great man he was.

When Joe Maines and I arrived in Archbald around 4:30pm, after driving up from South Jersey, I turned onto Main Street where the funeral home was located. We could see police cars up ahead with lights flashing. We did not expect to witness what we did when we pulled up in front of the funeral home. There was a line out the front door, around the side of the building and at least two blocks up the steep hill on the side street. We asked one of the police officers directing traffic where we could park and he just shrugged his shoulders and said good luck. After driving around for 10 minutes we finally found a parking spot. We made our way to the end of the line which had gotten longer while we found a parking spot. We were joined there by Dana Kimmel and we waited in line for just short of two hours. During the wait more and more people made their way up that hill to get in line. The weather was not conducive to standing in line outdoors as it was damp and temperatures were in the low 40's however not one person got out of line the entire time we waited.

I can't say for sure how many people attended the viewing but that line outside consisted of several hundred people for the entire two hours we were there and it was there before we got there and when we left the line still stretched up that hill. A thousand, two thousand? I don't know. What I do know is XE will be missed by more people than he ever could have imagined. We were only teammates for the last three years but I know how much I will miss him. That throng of people, family, friends, work associates and teammates is a tribute I will never forget.

May God bless you XE and may you rest in peace.

I had the same thoughts Bill, was blown away by the respect and love shown by MANY for this man, never seen anything quite like it. I was on line by 3:50, which was completely off the property and heading up the street. Took just under 2 hrs to pay my respects. It was a true testament to how many people X.E. touched, unbelievable. RIP X.E.

XE was a man all to his own. There will never be another like him. It would do all us good to try to be more like him.

For those who didn't get PRIVLEDGE of knowing him you really were cheated on meeting superman. It was never about how good he was at the game, even though his entire career he played at the highest level with many of the top teams in the nation.

He was always the guy that put you above him on and off the field. He never spoke about himself and accomplishments but always acknowledged yours. He never owned anything or did anything that was more important than his family or friends. Most importantly no one ever had to ask him for his help, he already helped be fore you needed to ask.

In 2010 and 2011 I had 2 major battles with my health he called me everyday and wanted to just come over to sit with me, he lived 2+ hours away.

Yesterday there wasn't a person in that line that would have given up being there for anything else in the world and there wasn't a person in that line that wished we could have done more and been a better friend.

It truly was a honor and privilege to have him in my life and there is nothing I could ever do to repay him for that.

His last words at the end of every phone call were Remember the fat man loves you. He meant it every time. #1 always in my boob
