Discussion: Ray Ray has passed

I’ll miss Ray Ray a lot. We played against each other for years and I appreciated him as a competitor, but over the last few years we became good friends. We had a common bond and were able to pump each other up. RIP my friend.

Hey Shark, that’s great we’re looking forward to finally playing, the New Jersey Hitmen are already signed up. I understand we’re the only 65M team so far, so I hope some other 65M teams get signed up and let’s have a good tournament to finally get this season started. Be good to see everyone in Syracuse! Be well!

Discussion: OLD TOPIC BUT

I always get a big kick out of this discussion. This is the 15th year the New Jersey Hitmen have existed. We have moved up and down between Major and Major+ in every age group. We always accept wherever SSUSA puts us and try to improve and play our best. Because there are so few Major+ teams in the east, 2 of us, the tournaments aren’t much fun for us anymore. It’s hard to give Major teams 5 runs in most games where you never get to play 7 innings. We’re looking forward to going to Las Vegas where there are 4 teams!! Last year there were 5....WOW! I’m not sure the solution, but I’m confident Terry and the smart people can figure it out. It’s hard for us to get out of area players because they don’t want to travel to the northeast to play in tournaments with 3 Major teams and then play the other Major+ team best 2 of 3. That’s if both Major+ teams show up. The last 2 years we haven’t been able to play in the Northeast Championships because there wasn’t any 65M teams either. That caused us some issues this year because that was the qualifying tournament for us to go to The Eastern Nationals and Vegas. To SSUSA’s credit we worked it out. We have no outside players on our roster, so that rule doesn’t help us. I believe there are many 65M teams that can play M+ because it is less of a power game at 65 than lower ages. Anyway, no solutions, but my 2 cents too.

Discussion: Major plus problem

By the way, this past winter a questionnaire came out in SSUSA about going to one Major division and eliminating Major+. I voted for it and said use Major home run rules and eliminate outside players as ISSA does. Then, don't let the Major teams slide back to AAA. I think Mr. Manassas will tell you that works pretty good. It was clear I was of the minority opinion because it wasn't adopted this year. It is really the 2 outside guys and the higher home run rule that hurt the Major teams when they move up. Most of the outside guys are already committed to a Major+ team.

Now don't say everyone, because there are so few teams we play you almost every tournament and it is great competition! You have never heard us once say we won't play you and that is your 60 team. In ISSA most of the 60 M teams have asked to play AAA, but not us. Playing you makes us a better team.

My name is Jeff Hitt, I sponsor and play for the New Jersey Hitmen. I am in Red Bank and we also have a Monmouth County senior league team that is a 50 team. Our tournament team is 60 major, but even if you are 55 give me your contact information and I can give you contact information for 55 teams at all levels of competition in New Jersey.
