Discussion: Tag Up

MLB, ASA, NCAA have rules against it but like BJ could not find a rule in Senior Softball. So would make same call safe, as long as runner touches bag same time as ball hits glove, understand runner has to have contact with bag as contact with bad is made.

Can I back up behind the bag and get a running start on the tag up, be on the run when outfielder catches fly ball as long as I make contact with the bag at the time of catch or after ball hits glove

Discussion: catch no catch

Think about this Dave outfielder making a catch falls to ground ball lands on stomach picks ball off of stomach and throws ball into infielder, ball never hit ground just saying. Read the complete rule about a catch. I agree it is not a catch until player removes ball from glove, remember ball has not hit ground very important, also this is only a discussion.

Rec ball, line drive hit to me at third, make the catch, ball hit so hard takes my glove off, glove comes off, glove on ground with ball securely in glove. I picked up glove with ball in it remove ball and presented to umpire for out call. He calls no catch, I claimed catch because ball never hit ground. I got the answer from major league umpire really want to see answers on disussion board. I will be 85 in July have played organized ball since 11 yrs old played HS baseball 32 yrs major fastpitch, and 33 yrs of senior softball never saw this before. I guess the old saying if you live long enough you will see everything has a lot of truth in it.

Discussion: out or safe

Batter hits ground ball to infielder, throw beats runner to first, first baseman falls making catch, ball pops out when first baseman hits ground out or safe. My call, safe, I say he has to complete play was I right or wrong.

Discussion: what's the ruling on ball over the foul line

If any part of the ball is touching the line it is fair, even if the center of the ball is in foul territory. Just saw that on you tube, the ball was in foul territory, but the out edge was hanging over the line.

I can't believe you have no answer for me BJ. There has to be a rule. Say he is on second, only runner on base, the shortstop runs into man on second, if the runner was not on the bag shortstop would have had easy play. Does play have to move off bag as they do in baseball.

runner on base pop up fielder runs into runner standing on bag fielder drops ball, what is the call. I know in baseball you have to vacate bag because it is not a safe haven, in softball it is.

Discussion: Is a check-swing or deliberate half-swing legal?

had a hitter in our league, get a base hit to right one hop to right field, a punch swing. Umpire called batter out for not taking full swing? someone has to remove full swing from rule. Umpire don't know a well place ball does not need a full swing. Like golf swing.

saw discussion on at not a full swing. Had a player in our league get a hit to right field umpire called him out saying he did not take a full swing.

runner on first and second manager asked umpire for time out to insert courtesy. Manager told umpire courtesy runner was replacing man at second. runner when to first, runner on ist did not vacate. when courtesy runner started for second umpire told him he had to run at first because he touch bag. was umpire right?
