Thanks for the info, my question is, if I lived in Kansas, what tournaments would we have to play in, and win, to win the Triple Crown. Thanks guys.

My curiosity is that, to Win the Triple Crown, you have to win the Western Nationals, as I'm in the west, and then beat the Eastern Champions in the World Championship tournament in Vegas, And win the World Championship. Does these other regions that you mentioned,( N, NE, MID WEST, SOUTH ETC) have a chance to win the Triple Crown. If I lived in Kansas, what tournaments would I have to play in to win the Triple Crown. Washington DC and California are a long was away to play in if I lived in Kansas. Not sure why you mentioned Vegas. Western Nationals is in California.

Just a thought, couldn't these 2 tournaments be more centrally located in their prospective regions. The Western Nationals is located in California, how many teams participate in it that aren't from California? Not many. How many States are eligible for the Western Nationals? Where is the cut-off of States that can compete. If it was more Centrally located, more Teams might be interested in participating. Possibly the same for the East. Just thinking out loud.

Discussion: Fire the umpire.

I can relate to that incident, but our umpire was willing to change his call, because our outfielder told the truth. The batter hit the ball and from the infield view point, it looked as if the ball bounced over the fence, which was a 5ft snow fence. The plate umpire called it a ground rules double. Our outfielder, with good sportsmanship, said it was a home run, so the ump changed his call. Mistakes do happen.

Discussion: Dirty play.... Dirty player

A gentleman made a statement on this website pertaining to a dirty play/player on CJ&S. This gentleman chose to tell his side of the incident, to make him feel better, but not the whole story.

The story is, there was obstruction in a play at 2nd base by the defensive team, which was recognize by the Umpire. The umpire awarded the runner 3rd base. WHAT THIS GENTLEMAN FAILED TO MENTION WAS, Because our 2nd baseman got in the way of the runner causing the obstruction, that this gentleman felt it was ok to take a swing at our second baseman, when the obstruction occurred.

Obstruction happens, no intent involved, but to take a swing at another player for it is really unsportsmanlike. If you going tell a story about something, tell the whole story.

Thunder Out.

Discussion: 2 different levels in the same bracket in a TOC

Hey Dave, or Rules committee, there's been a lot of conversation about higher levels playing lower levels and having to spot runs plus only hit there amount of Homeruns.

Just played in a tournament in Prescott where the higher level team spotted 5 runs to the lower level, They then let the teams hit Homeruns at the higher level amount. Also, they played one up when both teams hit the set limit of the higher seed. I then had a thought.

Since, and I believe this, every team in softball, counting AA Teams, can hit more than one homerun, that the homerun rule be changed to this:

Homeruns are set at the lower level Team, with one up from there. I'd even suggest one up for all games, playing same level or not. With the balls we play with and the bats we use, let the guys swing the bat. There's still time for skill hitting in these games.

Hope you'll consider this change.

Discussion: 2 different levels in the same bracket in a TOC

I know sometimes in a TOC, that 2 different skill levels or age levels, have to be combined due to participation, HOWEVER, why does the higher level have to suffer. The ISSUE, higher level has to lose home runs, and give up 5 runs. In seeding day, the first tie breaker is RUNS AGAINST. IF, all teams in that division do not play a lower skill level team to get seeded, those who did are 5 runs in the hole already. Plus, the higher level can't hit their amount of home runs. In a AA matching up to a AAA TEAM, that's 1 not 3.

May I suggest, bat control can solve the home run difference, we hit the lower skill level amount, as rule states. BUT, there's no 5 runs given, UNLESS, every team in the seeding games, play a lower level team.

In the Laughlin tournament, 60AA played 60AAA, BUT, only in the seeding games. AND, there was only 3 AA Teams and they played a round robin for their Championship. The seeding games really didn't mean anything to them.

Can this be considered for the up coming TOC, or is something that is set in stone until the Rules committee meet to make changes? I will be sending in a recommendation to consider this change.

Thanks for listening.

Discussion: Thank you to the Umpire

My Team was in the middle of a game, this past weekend, for the Western Championships in California when our Pitcher, Jimbo, got the worse news ever, his Dad had just passed. Trying to keep his composure, and try to take his at bat, the Umpire called time for us to console our pitcher. I don't recall the umpires name, but thanks again for putting family emotions before ball. Guys like that is why I enjoy playing at this age. My prayers are with you Jimbo.

Discussion: Get rid of the 1-1 count

Yes SSUSA STAFF, I'm aware of the November meeting, and when changes are made. My discussion didn't say change it tomorrow, it's a discussion for others to see and weigh in. Just curious to know, did a player go to that meeting requesting you to change to a 1-1 count, or was it a director that brought it up.

And Webbie25, if we're getting an extra 2 minutes, our coach is not aware of this, and we the players wouldn't know unless he was told. There's no running score board with a clock to know this. FYI, last Tournament in Vegas, we got to the 7th inning only twice out of 5 games. Just saying.

Discussion: Get rid of the 1-1 count

Senior Softball has turned into a pitchers game. Without being able to take a pitch, as a batter, you're now looking at a 1-2 count if the first pitch is a strike. One to waste is crap. A flat pitch thrown and not called by our umps, is hard to foul off. Give back a little equalizer, go back to 0-0 none to waste. Wanting to speed up the game is just rushing the game. Set a time limit so a game can be enjoyed. Senior Softball already rushes the game by starting the clock as soon as the coins been flipped. By the Time the actual first pitch is thrown, we've already lost about 4 minutes of a 55 minute game. Let us enjoy the game.

Discussion: Why so late

Is there a solution to this problem. The field assignment just came out, and as a 50 major team, we've been waiting to see where we would play, either Mesquite, or St. George, where we played the last 2-3 years. So we get a place in St. George, and then we find out we're in Mesquite. At this time, there's no rooms available in Mesquite, NONE. Even though St. George is a nice complex, there's just too much distance between there and Mesquite to drive if we pick the wrong place to play. If nothing changes, there will be at least 1 less team next year. Too much of a headache.

Discussion: Pay to play a quality tournament

I just heard that I am driving all the way from Tucson to Flagstaff for Mountain Madness and I'm playing 3 games on Saturday and only one game on Sunday. And one of them games on Saturday is a 1 pitch. Where is all the money going that the teams are paying. I heard there are a lot of teams that are playing in this tournament. If there's too many teams to put on a quality tournament, then there should be a limited amount of teams in the tournament. But that would mean the director wouldn't make all that money. I'm paying $90 to play one game on Sunday, come on. Does anybody else have a problem with this, or is it just me.

Discussion: The new sun rule 6.16

When was this sun rule amended. We had this problem in Florida during the TOC. The director and umpires said that there was no rule to move the pitcher due to the batter having the sun in his eyes. Is everyone not on the same page. There shouldn't be a rule problem in a tournament of this importance, and directors are running it.
