Discussion: Replacements

Thanks for the input. I played in a tournament yesterday and was pleasantly surprised.....I think that I'm still a couple of months away from throwing overhand and swinging hard.

How long does it take to come back to playing after a shoulder replacement. It has been four and a half months.

Discussion: Shoulder Replacement

Just scheduled my right shoulder for replacement in November. I did this after talking to my surgeon and several people who have gone through the operation. Both of those had glowing reports about the procedure and are back to playing softball. One in about four months and the other after six months. My doctor told me that I could start to play after three or four months if I did the rehab religiously. I already have two knee replacements and am very happy with those results. Same group of doctors.

R tavern......My advice to anyone who's has had a knee replacement is to work out in the pool and simulate as much of the motion that you do during a game. I continue to do that at least twice every week.

Discussion: What is or what makes a player a major plus player?

I agree that the greatest impediment to playing major plus or major is between the ears. The statement that if you think you can or can not is very true. I certainly am not one of the hard hitters on my team but I accept the challenge of the competition. I think it is a thrill to compete against the best teams and players...win or lose. I have bad days just like everyone else, I just try to let it go and move on. I am no better than anyone else and am constantly trying to make myself more competitive. This would not be any different if I was playing at any division level....The bottom line is that I love to play softball.

Discussion: Major plus problem

I know that it is a difficult problem in Senior ball......I appreciate what the major organizations try to do to manage this situation. I would like to end some more f the speculation about our team being sponsored..We are fortunate enough to have someone who's pays the entry fees but other than that all of our players pay their own way. So when an organization tells us to spend our own money to go to their tournament and play our other 65 team two out of three we feel that is ridiculous and will not do it.....And so it goes on and on......

Discussion: Major plus problem

I am totally frustrated as are all my teammates on Superiors 60 and 65 teams. We tried to enter a SPA tournament in Maryland and basically were denied because they said that no one wanted to play us....Their solution was for us to play ourselves, of course after paying two entry fees. This is a problem across all the associations. I would like to ask the SSUSA staff if the answer is for us to play 55 major or 60 major with our 65s or if we would be allowed to play the younger major teams? is the intent of all the associations to force us to disband? I know that it is a problem that has no easy answer. I can't believe that more teams do not want to play at the highest level. I wish that there was some way to entice teams and players to play up.....Sorry for the rant!!!

Discussion: Best Hitters in Senior Softball

I may be biased but
My teammate Don Clatterbough has got to be in any discussion of great hitters. Definitely one of the toughest outs that I have ever played with or against.

Discussion: WHO ARE CURRENTLY THE MOST POWERFUL HITTERS IN SENIOR SOFTBALL

I do not choose to get into an argument with anyone, I just thought it was amazing watching these two guys hit softballs. By the way I had the pleasure of playing against all the before mentioned players and they were great. I have witnessed the best the game has to offer and am still amazed by what I continue to see!!!

Discussion: WHO ARE CURRENTLY THE MOST POWERFUL HITTERS IN SENIOR SOFTBALL

A couple of guys from Superior softball were hitting in Vegas before the tournament a year ago and the Canseco brothers showed up to hit. we were amazed at how far Ozzy hit the ball. We thought that he was hitting it about 415 or so. His brother hit next and we witnessed him sending the ball over 550 feet or further...It was amazing.....We actually walked it off and it was closer to 600 feet!!! I have seen some of the greatest hitters in the game hit over the years and never saw anything like that before.

Discussion: Field assignments.

I have played in the 60 major plus for two years now. Two years ago we played in Cheyenne and it was atrocious. Last year I played at the complex that had the construction going on and I found out that the construction crews were not aware of the softball tournament that was to be played that weekend.
In addition there several fields that were sun terrible at certain times a day.
This year I see that we are in Boulder City for two days and then in the BLD on Sunday. I am starting to get a complex....I know that there are massive problems in putting on a tournament of this size but it seems that maybe seperating the age divisions a little more should be considered....Just my two cents on the matter.....

Discussion: Hitting

I too agree with Bruce. (One of the best hitters I have played against)
We have a BP club here in northern Va. And we have developed a little ritual that we go through every session. We always hit with a screen and begin our session by hitting up the middle. We follow that by hitting the 3-4 and 5-6 holes. We even practice hitting sac flys to different parts of the field. I think that it is important to know what your strengths and weaknesses are as well.
