Flex handle may feel better [or not :-)] but it robs power. The contact of bat and ball happens way to fast for handle flex to react in a positive way. The bat is simply flexing back from the ball at contact and rebounding long after the ball has left the bat.The barrel on the other hand does react and trampoline the ball quick enough to matter. It's really sad for such a great annual tournament to do something so stupid. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to play in a tournament that is so expensive [entry and hotels]and then have to hit total trash for softballs. |

Umpires that have no clue where 12' or 15' is along with the 1 and 1 count and people are hacking at the first pitch they can reach. Welcome to the Florida Half Century where with no run or home run limits games finish 7 innings most of the time for most teams. You just cannot be as picky about what you swing at with the 1 and 1 count and it lowers the amount of offense. |

I have found that most really appreciate being offered an opportunity to do so. I think it is a great idea for both teams to participate because it offers an opportunity to leave whatever happened during the game on the field. Also it seems like this time on the mound is where the competitive natures get put away and friendships have a greater chance to develop. |

In lee county While it is true that the summer heat [March to October]in Florida does have an adverse affect on the softballs we use, this months FHC tournament was played with a lower quality version of the Trump Stote. I was told that they ordered the normal balls but what they got was all that was available. Supply issues have been the norm this year. Even Dudley has not been able to supply enough Stadium balls to USSSA. No conspiracy involved, just issues getting balls made and shipped in a timely manner. The FHC tried to do the right thing but it was outside of their control. |

| Feb. 14, 2015 PJ3P | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: How to get more teams willing to play in the Major-plus division Having played for 3 years in the Florida Half Century [unlimited hrs] and having played a few SSUSA type tournaments let me say this. It is ridiculously easier to hit with a 4-3 count instead of a 3-2 with no extra. A 3-2 count and umpires who can't tell 15' from 12' when you have a strike on you and the games get much more competitive. Even in the Super A division [top 5 of 85] of the Half Century I would bet that the teams average 10-12 home runs a game [or less] over a 4 game weekend. I can absolutely guarantee you that with a 4-3 count that number would be more like 18-20. |
