Discussion: Walking to pitch

According to the rules for pitching that I've seen, *No “walking the box.” Pitcher must come set and pause facing batter with ball in front of body. Pitcher may take one step while keeping pivot foot in contact with pitcher’s box.**. yet when I bought this up to the umpire and tournament director during worlds in Vegas I was told it wasn't going to be called since the pitcher does it all the time and they didn't want to slow the games down and it would provide an unfair advantage to the other team since he can't pitch without walking? I expressed my displeasure but was told this was a decision made when another team complained. why have a rule if it won't be enforced?

Discussion: Cesar Chavez Softball Complex during Winter Worlds

I recently played at Cesar Chavez Softball Complex for winter worlds for my 60's team that played at this complex. I have to Thank the city and grounds crew that did EVERYTHING possible to insure these fields were in the best possible condition for EVERY game. They groomed and watered the fields after every game so that we as players had the same playability each game. As a player that has played all over the country on many different fields and conditions I appreciate the effort and dedication that was showed for these games.

Thank you Senior Softball for using the best.

Discussion: use of High COR, Low Compression ball

I play ASA and SSUSA and have played with both balls. I'm also a board member of the ASA association in Portland, OR. We use the 52/300 balls for women and men for all league and tournament games and I have NOT seen a difference in the number of home runs hit during a game. The same people who hit them previously are still hitting them. The ball is designed not to cause SERIOUS injuries, but the performance on off center hits will cause an increase in "bad" hops, but when players are hit the injury won't be as severe. We allow seniors to use their senior bats, but I also don't see an advantage with senior bats over newer ASA bats, except in the mind of the users.
