Discussion: Batting screens

I have been using the Juggs Snap-tite slowpitch screen for 12 years now. This thing is completely portable and bomb proof. A little heavy for for long trips but nothing can beat it for bp around your home town.
The pitch safe is a nice screen but will probably only last you a year or two. The fiberglass poles break with hard shots.
I also have a Power Net but it's now only used for the little grand kids. It's very light and portable, but flexes quit a bit when hit hard. Pitchers get hit in the back of the head (lightly) when they pitch standing too close to the screen.
Just my experiences. Hope this helps.

Well Dave, it happens. Witnessed it this year in a 50 and over league. Lot of guys that have never played before (or not since tee-ball).

Discussion: How do you like the 1 n 1 count?

1-1 count is great.
55M+ and 50M only 1 of our games did not go 7 innings this year.
As a fielder I really enjoy the improved pace of play. Now we just need to do away with the pitching and infield warm-ups EVERY inning.

Discussion: Kudos on new balls

I completely agree with Swing on this. The new Stote was a lot of fun this weekend. Thank you SSUSA. Omar, they ruined the Fire. I know the cover was changed because it was splitting badly, but they must have changed the insides too. It's junk compared to this new ball and the old Fire.

Discussion: Drum Roll...the Starting Count decision results.

I applaud SSUSA for this decision. Although I do prefer no extra foul, this is a good start. I'm a fairly aggressive hitter and hate wasting time in the box while the pitcher screws around wasting pitches.

Now we just need to work on; no infield after the first inning/ no warm-up pitches, and no runner after the first pitch to next batter rules(ala Huntsman Games).

And the one pitch, dumb.

What? You're saying this tongue in cheek, right?

If you're serious you are completely clueless. Have you ever actually looked at the plate and box? Guess what, it's not flat. Can you guess what happens when the ball hits the edge of a raised plate, mat, or turf (like at BLD)? It doesn't go straight! DUH!

AJC, ASA allowed stealing in 2005 I believe in the Regional and National tourneys. I think it was only for a year or two. Not really sure when they ended it.

Discussion: SSUSA Convention Minutes

I'm surprised not many have chimed in on this topic, considering how many have complained about the Trump Stote (myself included).
I have never hit the Microcell Stote, so I can't comment on it.
Has anyone? Opinions?

Only if it comes with, no extra foul ball. That makes it worthless. I play in a league that does this. Stupid.

Kind of reminds me of when Timmy M. caught them with their pants down. But instead of making up stuff they're just not going to say anything. Pretty weak.

Bro, we all think like that.

There's a senior tourney in Tracy the 15-16th. If you don't hear anything go check it out. Seems like teams are needing people a lot lately. This is the injury time of year.

Discussion: How best to position11 defensive players?

I guess I'm a modernist? I started softball in 1980 and have only seen 10 fielders, until Senior softball. I've been on the 11 player side and do not agree with it. We beat JK Inc. with 11 several years ago, they were pissed. And now I see why.
Giving runs, limited home runs, and home team are enough. 11 defenders is like play softball in grade school gym class with 20 to a side.

Dave it's not going to make much difference how we store our balls (except Benjii4'/Aftershocks idea)when every umpire puts the extra balls on the backstop in the sun.

Which brings us back to the crappy ball you use. Sounds like our only option is to put pressure on the manufacture.
BOYCOTT ANACONDA/BSN, or whoever owns/ manufactures these balls now.

Discussion: Ruling clarification

Wow, senior softball has some pretty dumb rules, but this is the dumbest I have ever heard of. I agree out of the box is an out, but to count it as a home run with no run scored?
It's an illegally struck ball, dead ball! This sounds like a rule made up by someone who has never hit one out, and never will.

SSUSA, you guys just live for controversy and heated arguments, don't you? I can see this one being very loud and very long on the field. Really, really dumb.

Discussion: Why are there rules?

Hitem,
I stand by my (probably)inappropriate, (possibly beer infused) post. However I feel for you. You guys have a problem down there. But the only way it will be taken care of is by formal complaint, according to DD. If that's been done, and it's still not being resolved, then this is where the naming of names needs to take place. In this public forum.
SSUSA is not very forthcoming with information when there is trouble in paradise. IMO it's another black eye for their business.
I want to know for sure who that TD is so I don't play in his tourneys. We can't band together to make a change if people are just going to throw out vague rumors.

C'mon deep, if you are going to call someone out on here then grow some stones and name names. Tired of this chicken shit whining and crying. You don't even have your name on here so what are you worried about? If it's this same guy we've heard about before, then let us know.

Discussion: International Tie Breaker

Umm staff, I'm going to defend the TD here. He was following the rule as written (yes too vague) as we had asked him to. Which, in my opinion, is what the TD should be doing. If he is out there making assumptions of what people were thinking or planning (or not planning)then he's asking for trouble.

No, I do not believe that they were trying to get a rabbit in there. But a rule is a rule and the TD followed it as written. Hey, there are some wily old seniors out there, you never know. I had something similar happen to a team I played for when I played 40's and we were learning senior rules.

Discussion: What is your favorite complex you've ever played at?

They all have + and -.

1. Canyons Complex St. George (don't slide)
2. Golden Eagle (when wind below 25mhp)
3. BLD (would be higher if outfield wasn't torn up)
