Discussion: toothpick

I agree with Ump on this one, the guy is playing 3rd base. Runner comes into third and while tagging him there is a collision and toothpick goes in runner's eye. I know there is a very small chance of this happening but it could. Also could happen if he's batting and running the bases.

Right on Murray if nothing else flake like you are going to tag him and if he steps over the line throw ball home. The hard part is catching the ball in the first place when you are over 70! lol

If the 3 baseman is next to runner standing at the commitment line he should be able to tag him before he can cross it. If he does cross it before the tag throw ball home. Am I missing something here this is my 22rd year of playing 3rd base in Senior Softball.

looks like runner would have to touch scoring plate to be safe. If he was tagged after crossing the line he is not out but if ball is thrown to catcher standing on home plate before runner gets to scoring plate he would be out.

creins, I have complained for years about teams ready to play and have to wait 10-20 minutes for the Umps. This happens in all organizations. A lot of the time the 1st game of the day starts late

Discussion: How to Play More Innings

I have said this on here before--I feel the easy way to speed up the game is to stop letting Ump's take 10 or 15 minutes or more in between games. Over and over you have 2 teams ready to play but no Ump's. This adds up over a whole day.

I think it's that most AA team's don't travel a long distance. They just play in local tourney's.

I see that SPA is charging $750 a team to play in their July world Tourney for 50-55&60 M & M+ teams, with a 4 game guarantee. What is hard to understand is the fee for world in September for AA & AAA plus 65M & M+ teams stayed at $695 with a 5 game guarantee. Both are play in Dalton GA, what am I missing ?

I see where SSUSA has went back to home runs over the limit being DBO's in all divisions. This is the rule for the best players in the world the USA national team and should be for senior ball also IMHO. This will help the league teams compete and put defense back in the game.

Discussion: SSUSA AND SPA MEETINGS

This past Aug our team traveled over 2 hours to Indy to play in a SPA Tourney. We were the only 60M team and played the only 55M team best 2 out of 3. The sad part of this is the 55M team was from our own local League that we had already played 5 times. We did play the 2 60AAA teams Sat and got the #1 seed.lol Why do senior teams kept doing this ?
There seams to be good numbers in most age 50+ Tourney's, maybe the age group could be 56-62 and 63-69. Don has anything like this ever been brought up at one of your meeting?

Discussion: SSUSA AND SPA MEETINGS

My suggestion years ago was 50-57 and 58-64 the 65 year olds would have the option of staying in the younger age group or going to 65 division. Most don't go to older age group the 1st year they are eligible anyway. The players card could still be the same as it is now, yearly or every 5 years. I don't understand why more teams are not screaming for this to happen. Heck there were NO 55 M+ teams at the winter nationals this year in Fort Meyers and only 4 teams in 60M and 4 in 60M+. Isa World this past July had 3 60M and 2 60M+ teams and NO teams in 55M+. A lot of the Tourneys like Northern and Southern Championships don't get enough teams to have a 55 or 60 M+ division.

Brett, I have been saying the same thing on changing the age limit for the last 5 years. Mainly in Major and Major+ cause of the low number of teams in those 2 divisions.
I have seen 2 or 3 team Tourney's be for 3 days. Makes no sense something needs to be done.

Local league teams all players living within 50 or 75 miles of Mgr should be looked at different when it comes to rating than the teams that have players from all over the USA, especially in M+.

Discussion: Las Vegas Fields and Umpires

I may had been a little harsh by saying the M+ teams played in a dump the last 2 year's in Vegas. But Cheyenne park where we played in 2012 was not used this year, lets just say it was very bad. This makes my 17th year in senior ball and I don't remember ever playing without a orange double bag at 1st base like at Sunset. A white line the runner had to step on. I was in shock when seeing this the Umps (who were very good) had to guess on close play's. I'm sure the concession and restroom construction will be done by next year but this year there were 8 teams playing, their fans plus construction workers and only 2 outhouses{that's what we call them in KY}.
Far the last few years SSUSA have been trying to protect the Pitcher and themselves with a waiver, if batter hits Pitcher while he was in a Circle a out was called etc. In our 1st game both Friday and Sat at 7:30 am the Pitcher was blinded by the sun and the last game of the day was at 1:30 pm due to local leagues. If the fields were available all day these times were Pitcher can't see can be blacked out. If the batter is blinded no big deal same for both teams, but we are trying to protect the Pitcher right
There were 30 M+ teams this year in 50-55-60-and 65 age group which make's up about 6% of the total let's just say we got dumped on the last 2 years.
Phoenix was by far a better host for this Tourney, I don't remember all this BS on here after a World in AZ.
