Discussion: Vietnam Platoon Leader Finds a Longer Stride helps him Develop More Rotational Hip Power

I cannot find a rule stating that the batter is out if the back foot is in front of the plate. I know that is a USSSA rule and emphasized by that sanctionong body. When I look at SSUSA rule book I find the definition of the Batter's box stating:

At least some portion of both feet of the batter must be on the line or withing the batter's box.

Rule 1.33 Illegally Batted ball states: The batter is out if--
the batter hits the ball fair or foul and:
The entire foot is outside the lines of the batter's box and on the ground;
Any part of the foot is in contact with the strike zone mat.

I may be missing it, but please let me know where that is in the rule book.

Thanks

Discussion: Rolled bats

Do not trade your buddy for a bat. Do not buy a used bat. Do not buy a bat from a source that advertises rolled, shaved, laquered or any other modifications. Don't put it in a bat warmer. Don't sleep with it :-).

You are responsible for all bats in your possession at a tournament. If the bat was not purchased from a reputable dealer or kept safe in your possession, you are subject to a ban of 10 years(if you're playing 65s, that really life).

You do not have to surrender your bat for further testing if it fails compression, but that comes with a lifetime ban anyway.

One of the folks just suspended for 10 years, voluntarily went to the tournament director and asked him to test his new bat before the start of the tourney. Neither he nor his team was asked to submit their bats for testing. He wanted to make sure it was legal. It was not. It had been rolled (at his direction) by the online company that sold him the bat. He assumed that it was just like breaking it in with bp. He had not used the bat previously as his receipt showed the purchase was after the last tournament. Didn't matter. He had it there with intent to use. So please be careful about buying used bats or trading bats with your buddies. There is no reasonable way to determine if a bat has been rolled unless you cut it open. And your bat, however you got it, has been altered you are forever a spectator.

Discussion: Miken/Rawlings Johnny Bailiey 2024--defective bats?

I purchased a 2024 Miken Johnny Bailey in early 2024. This is the black bat and not to be confused with the newer dark blue ones released later in the year. I took about 19 swings in BP with it. Later I played in a practice game with the fellas. 2nd at bat, the barrel fell of. The bat broke in half. So maybe 12 swings. $220 for 12 swings seemed like a lot--but no warranty, so what are you going to do. Until a buddy of mine told me his broke too. A big crack straight across the barrel. On my team alone, there were 4 bats that had the same issue. I called Miken and they told me to submit a warranty request and send the bat back. Which I did. To my surprise, they sent a replacement bat. Cool. Except that one broke in less than 25 swings. They would not replace it a second time. I subsequently found a JB bat review by Big Chef softball. Here's the video. https://youtu.be/qK3DFWy6x4A?si=F6pIbnS2qQw2ZybS at about the 8:30 mark of this video, Big Chef states that this bat is different than the black one which had a defect and would break at the same place as ours broke. If Miken/Rawlings knows that these bats had a defect, why did they not offer replacements right away. Now I have a buddy who has the same bat with the same crack and they will do nothing for him. He broke the bat last summer and just put it in the garage. We were talking about the JB bats when he realized he had the same problem. Only now, they just tell him there is no warranty. I would assert that this is not a warranty issue, but instead a workmanship or materials issue. Not only were purchasers not notified that there was a defect, now they wont't even replace them knowing they were defective. Doesn't sound like Miken is standing behind their products or workmanship. Just a cautionary tale for those buying Miken product. They refuse to 'make it right'.

Discussion: Clarification for pop-up caught by catcher rule

I am correct--a foul tip (not higher than the batter's head) can be caught for an out if the batter has already used his/her courtesy foul? If the batter still has not used their courtesy foul, the foul tip is considered the courtesy if the batter has one strike. And a foul ball caught by the catcher (it must go over the head of the batter)is treated like any other caught foul fly. The ball is live and runners can advance at their own risk.
Thanks.
