Discussion: Caught foul ball.

Situation: Runners on 1st and 3rd, less than 2 outs. Shortstop catches a foul ball and runs out of play.
What is the ruling? Is it a deadball and runners advance, can the shortstop return from out-of-bounds and throw out runners if they attempt to advance???

Discussion: Field assignment typo

The 70+ -85 teams have been assigned to CenturyLink in Ft. Myers, however the address below it is for Cape Coral. I am sure it is a typo, but just wanted to give you a heads up.

Discussion: 5 run rule in a shortened game

Last week we played in the Missouri Open tournament in Columbia MO. As a 70 AA team, we played 70 AAA teams in all 5 games, despite the fact that there was another 70 AA team present. My suggestion, however, concerns the 5 run rule we received (dictating us as visitor in all games) in a rain shortened situation. By giving us the runs in innings 2 through 6, we are in jeopardy of losing a bonus run inning and possibly more. I am suggesting we change the runs allowed to be given in innings 1 through 5 or even better 2 in the first, then 1 in the next 3 innings. We still have to be visitors so it is only fair that we are guaranteed our 5 runs. Your thoughts please.

Discussion: 2017 TOC team roster

Our 70's AAA team qualified for the TOC at the Mosquitoland Classic, June 8 - 11, 2017. We only had 14 players who could attend. We have carried 20 players on our roster all season. If the 14 who attended the MOS are the only one's who can attend, we will not have enough to field a team. How many of the non-attending roster members may go?

Discussion: 55+ Softball player looking for a tournament team

Have a good friend, who is now eligible for 55+, looking for a tournament team to play on for the 2017 season. Karl lives in the St. Louis MO area. Besides being an excellent defensive player, who could play basically any position...he hits for a high average, with power, but also willing to hit lines drives as well. And best of all, Karl is a great person who would make a very good teammate. Would be happy to answer any question via email or phone. Email: sanpal@att.net; cell: 618-978-3155. Thanks, Paul H.

Discussion: Forming a 70's team

We are a Midwest 65 AAA team that has 6 players that qualify for 70's in the 2015 season. Looking to start up or combine with an existing 70's team in the Midwest area. 4 of the players live in Missouri, while 2 live in Illinois. We would like to try and play in the SSUSA Ft. Myers tournament, but willing to start in the 2015 season. If interested or have question, you can contact me (Paul H.) at sanpal@att.net. We will still have a 65 AAA team.

Discussion: Managers nightmare!!

Time to vent...again. And YES I know there is a no-refund policy, but...After sending $500 plus $16 for overnight delivery for the July 25-27 ISA World Champ. tournament in Columbus IN, got emails from 4 players stating they could not attend. Had no choice but to cancel out. Sent email to Jerry Jackson explaining the situation and obviously requested a full or at least a part refund. There were 6 other teams in our division, so it did not impact the cost to ISA. Not only did I not get a response from Jerry, but saw that the check was cashed. We do not have full sponsorship and we all know how expensive these tournaments have become...so just wanted to give you all a heads up when you are considering to attend an ISA tournament. I know we will never attend one in the future!

Discussion: SPA drops the ball.

Hey Guys I appreciate your comments. As far as the motels through priceline.com, they were 2 1/2 stars for $47 plus tax.
This is a great help in reducing our costs, thus worth the effort (I think). When SSUSA and SPA offer motels at a discount, they obviously can't match those savings.
And from the above statements, if they had 5 teams in the 65 & 70 age division...seems like they could have still played those games and been able to cover their cost, if not make somewhat of a profit.
Sorry...but it still seems like decisions were made NOT in our best interest. Also, when you have to cancel a tournament, chances are you will never be able to get it to "fly" in the future.

Again, I really appreciate all your comments.

Discussion: opposite field hitting

As a right hand hitter trying to go to right field...I think the best way to go to the opposite field is to keep the hands back, don't dip your shoulder, think hitting down the line and wait, wait, wait. As a lefty, if there are men on first and/or first and second, heck I would still pull the ball...trying to reduce the chance of a double play. Good luck and practice going opposite during BP.

Discussion: SPA drops the ball.

Hope you guys will allow me to vent...your comments are appreciated.
The SPA tournament on May 29 - June 1, in Springfield Missouri has been cancelled...by SPA. "Not enough teams to (make a profit)." Do not know how many 65 & 70 teams were going, but heard is was somewhere between 5 & 7. Our 65 team and a 70 team from the St. Louis, MO area were going and the problem is we went through priceline.com (Name your own price)and have about 24 nights stay that are non-refundable. We use priceline.com because we can't afford to attend tournaments unless we can reduce the costs (we are blue-collar players).
So here it is: SPA could have held the tournament for the 65's & 70's, at least.
You may not want to ever use priceline.com, they have refused to help us and you never want to purchase ins. for rooms. I did and they refused to allow us to cancel or get a refund. Basically they all are more interested in "making money."
If any of the other 65 and/or 70 teams still want to go, we can get the fields (with possibly a small fee). Would enjoy playing two or three games on Thu. & Fri. and then sitting down and having a few "drinks" with you.

Discussion: Brickyard Game Schedules & Brackets

Thanks Nancy & Ho for your comments. Again, Dave is a great guy and I certainly would not question his effort. Looks like he needs help...if nothing else we could be given the starting time of our first game. It is 5:30 PM now and most of our players will leave mid-morning tomorrow.

Discussion: Brickyard Game Schedules & Brackets

Sorry guys but there is no reason why we shouldn't have the schedule for at least the 65+ and 70's, at the Brickyard Classic. Our team has to travel tomorrow and my guys need to know the schedule. We also need to make plans on team meetings as well as when & where to have BP. Dave & the SSUSA staff normally do a great job but they missed the boat on this one.
