Discussion: Jim Davis - NCI

Thanks Mike for sharing the information about the passing of Jim Davis. For anyone that has stepped on the ball field in Southern California, the name Jim Davis and NCI resonated through all of the dugouts. He was a fierce competitor and did not accept second place. I enjoyed competing against his teams as he recruited some of the finest softball talent in the regions. Jim will always be remembered for raising senior softball to new heights in SoCal.

Discussion: Another Goodbye

On behalf of my wife Sylvia and I, we wish to send our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Don. We had the good fortune to travel with Don on an International Softball tour to Cuba. He truly was the epitome on an ambassador for Senior Softball. We also had the opportunity to spend time with Don in Tupelo for the ISA/SSUSA Convention. He will always be remembered as a gentleman and a friend to all.

Discussion: Thanks For The Help and Support

Bruce, you guys on the Edge team have a great group of very talented players and it was indeed a pleasure to compete against your team. The heat played a huge factor this past weekend. Playing four games under those conditions can be taxing on the best. I wish you all the success this next season.

Great point James and I hope you have recovered. Good advice and words to remember. The other contributing factor is that at Desert Breeze, we played on synthetic turf which raises the temperature an extra 10 to 15 degrees. I got a heads-up on the heat issue from some of the local players during the managers meeting. Heat exhaustion can sneak up on you without warning. My hats off to every 55+ & 60+ team that competed in the Worlds under the extreme heat conditions.

Discussion: LOST GLOVE AT PAPAGO

Dear Managers and fellow players,

If you played at Papago Park on Saturday afternoon on Field #3, can you check with your players or friends to see if they might have picked up a glove by accident. The golve is a right handed Nokona glove. If so, please e-mail me at kevans@danapoint.org or by phone (949) 337-0516. Thanks in advance for your help.

Charles, Along with the great opportunity presented by Mike Adair, there is also a local organization that supports senior softball enthusiasts. The Top Gun Senior Softball Association has two teams in the 50+ age group. Depending on your skill level, both teams are currently rated AAA. We also have a great group of guys that practice every Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at Sabre Springs Park in San Diego. My e-mail address is kevans@danaoint.org. My name is Kevin Evans and i hang out with the Top Gun guys. Either way with Mike or our group, you will have a fun experience playing competitive softball. See you on the ballfield.

Discussion: SSUSA TOURNAMENTS...???

I forgot. Senior Moment. Vicki Oltean runs an excellant tournaments in Palm Springs. If I'm not mistaken her tournaments fall under the SPA organization. If this is correct....we have eight (8) organizations running Senior Softball tournaments in SoCal. I apologize up front if I am missing anyone. See you on the ball field. Kevin

Discussion: SSUSA TOURNAMENTS...???

Jose.....Thanks for asking about the five (5) Senior Slowpitch Softball Associations in SoCal. Obviously the list is even longer than I imagined.

The Five Plus Associations offering Slow Pitch Senior Softball:

1. Senior Softball (SSUSA)
2. Top Gun Senior Softball Association
3. SoCal Senior Softball Tournaments (SCSST) Don Reddig
4. SoCal Senior Softball Association (SCSSA) Marv Ruddell
5. No. County Senior Softball (NCSS)
6. MSA - Doug Skaggs
7. ASA - Nate Hines

As you can imagine senior organizaqtion vying for limited field avaiability no matter the age groups. By the way, I'm sure you noticed the SCSST tournamen; May 15 - 18 in Riverside and July 26 - 27 in Poway. But with so many playing opportunities I can imagine why it would be easy to forget some.

Side Note. Mike, I always enjoyed bringing our Top Gun team to Oxnard. Fun place to play. Also, thank you and the Oxnard Rookies for supporting Top Gun and traveling south to SoCal and compete in one of our SSUSA/Top Gun Tournaments. Keith (aka. Kevin) Evans

Discussion: SSUSA TOURNAMENTS...???

Jose, The tournament you're referencing in San Clemente is a non SSUSA event. The tournament in July is being run by SCSSA and is a non-sanctioned SSUSA tournament. Since there are five organizations running senior softball tournaments in SoCal, I can understand the confusion. On a side note, I have played in the snow (29 degrees) in Reno and 105 degrees in Las Vegas. Point me in the direction of the next tournament and I'm there. Good luck this season and I'll see you on the ball field. Kevin
