@DaveDowell,
I don't necessarily "disagree" with you. You bring up good points. I wear my cap front wards, bill rounded. But when I wear it to hit, it can impede the view of a high pitch. But, I really hope you enforce the last paragraph.

@Gpatoot,
I respect the game and myself. Not a fan of the blaring music. Trash talk can be good spirited at times as long as it's not offensive or personal. Bat flipping...I love to do it, but I hate when it's done to me. So I can understand the discontent.

Music before the game with a small speaker, not a problem. But when you have a DJ with giant speakers, disco ball and strobes...going too far.

So I wanted to ask a simple question to a very irrelevant topic that has been frustrating me for a long time. Why can you not turn your cap around backwards when batting? You're permitted to wear no cap. You're permitted to wear a bucket hat, a boonie hat, a fishing hat with a license, lures and bobbers on it (yes, I e seen it) but you cannot turn a cap around to bat. Now, the rules state that the catcher can turn his around in the field because he's looking up to field his position. Batting falls under the same principle. I have to question this because e ery team has "that guy" who screams out the rule, page number, paragraph and line and demand that the cap be turned around. So really, is it that big of a deal? I could wear a Beanie with a propeller on the top of it, but can't turn a cap around to bat.

Just sayin'

Discussion: Umpire question

I will say that last year in the world championships at Las Vegas my team was playing Hartford for the championship. I hit a long fly to deep left Center and the ball bounced over the fence for what would be a ground rule double. The Umpire signaled a home run and I was out. Of course I told the Umpire that that was an incorrect call and that the balls that are hit over the fence at this particular field disappear because they go off a cliff. I told him that the fact that we saw the ball bounce is proof that it stayed in the park and was a ground rule double. He wasn't having it. Both outfielders from Hartford came in and told the Umpire that it was not a home run and that it did in fact bounce over the fence. The Umpire changed the call to a ground rule double. I think in those situations the Umpire agreeing to make the correct call based on the integrity and honesty of the Fielding team is acceptable. They basically allowed us to take a one-run lead going into the last inning. But the situation that Double D is describing should not be accepted.

Discussion: Bat testing correction

Gary,
I completely agree with your previous statement. I want to personally commend Terry and his staff for coming up with the most logical solution possible. I concur with your diligence in attempting to get the illegal bats out of the association. However there is an extremely large gray area where some people can find themselves in as a result of incomplete testing. The volunteer method is fantastic. I have bats that I have been using for years and quite frankly I love them. But they may not be in compliance with the directives. Having the opportunity to have them tested and be free and clear is the right way to go. I think doing it this way will promote players to ensure that they are in compliance and this will maintain the structural integrity of the association and fair gameplay. Once again, Terry, thank you for making the decision that is in the best interest of all teams, players and the association overall.

Discussion: Selective classifications?

Thank you dave. I read that about it being reopened and tabled but wasn't sure exactly how that was to be received. It really wasn't 100% clear and I wasn't sure if the vote was Final and that the other two motions were prior to the final vote. I do hope that it is reconsidered and at a bare minimum becomes effective for the 2026 season and current players are grandfathered to those teams and those teams only without being able to move. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to respond. The dedication and work that you all put in to this organization is greatly appreciated. Thank you again.

Discussion: Selective classifications?

So I attempted to get some clarification on the Mississippi River role that has been in place since the covid era. So I'm also looking at the new rules that were passed in the meeting. And I'm curious as to why there are no more touching State exemptions for double A and Triple A. However the major teams are permitted to have four players from everywhere or anywhere that they so choose. What is the rationale or basis behind this? Why are we penalizing lower classification teams but rewarding the higher classification teams? Why can it not be straight across the board? Is there an exception for players that have been on your roster prior to 2026? Can these players be grandfathered if they were on an existing roster prior to 2026 and moving forward no additions are to be made? I really don't think this rule is in the best interest of the ssusa. Unless of course it appears that there is an attempt to rub out the lower classification teams and bolster the major divisions. I know for a fact that my double 18 could not compete with the majors. Nor would we want to. It wouldn't be fun to get the hell beat out of us every single tournament. I'm merely giving credit to the major division teams that play because they are that good. We already accept the fact that when we go to tournaments we're kind of like the red-headed stepchildren. We're usually thrown together in a division to do our preliminary games against much stronger teams. And then in the finals it's usually a best of three or a double elimination tournament with possibly three teams. We don't really get Awards after it's over. We don't get all tournament team recognition. But we have a great time and enjoy ourselves. That's all we're looking to do here. But it seems as if after this season we're basically penalized and would have to lose two players who have been with us for a substantial period or decide to move to the major division. Does this seem fair to anyone?

Discussion: Mississippi River 2 Player exception

I am hoping that someone on here can give me a little insight. I was informed by one of my teammates about a rule change for rosters beginning in 2026 that is focusing on not permitting the two out of region players. I was kind of Uncertain based on the screenshot he sent me that showed the vote was passed 10 - 0 but it was also passed 10 - 0 to be Revisited and table. So I'm not really sure what is going on with the rule. I do think it would be a bad idea to allow players to be on a roster for several seasons but then turn around and say that they're no longer permitted. Will these players be grandfather? Is this rule going to be initiated for seasons following 2026, which would seem to make better sense. Can someone help me out?
