stick8 .... as a matter of fact, yes I did, regardless of what Nacy Allen says. So here's the FULL story. At the beginning of the game, team we are playing against turns in their lineup card to the umpire with only first names and nicknames. At which time I walked over and asked to talk to the on site director. I told him about the line up card and told him that I will be putting the game under protest. The director stated that by rule, it will be a forfeit. I go back over to my diamond which is underway. Batter comes up with bases loaded and 2 outs. He hits a homerun. Would have been their 5 for the inning. I call time, walk over to the umpire and tell him that I am protesting an illegal batter. At which time, he goes and gets the on site director. By this time, the tournament director has also come over. He rules that said batter, who is on the line up card as a nickname, is ejected. The 3 runs on base are counted and third out. End of the inning. So while I am debating the rules and about to protest the next player on the lineup card, the director stops me, hands the lineup card to the other team and tells them to go fill it out properly. So not only did the director throw out the rule regarding an illegal batter and runners not advancing, he gave them the 3 runs and he basically threw out the line up card and let the team edit it to make it legal. Then started the game back up. And wouldn't you know it, even though time was supposedly stopped due to being under protest, when play resumes, we are told next inning will be the open inning due to time limit. We lost by 2.

John028.... In all of our years doing this, while not always liking an umpires judgement call, we've always accepted them because they are just that, a judgement call. But the one thing you and I have always been stickers about is the rules.... even when we went head to head for years. And while I agree with you, from our perspective, that there were some very bad umpires this weekend, we were fortunate to also have some good ones. Unfortunately it's part of the game. But the instances of rules being thrown out was just unexceptable. Illegal bats allowed to be used that weren't on the list. Game parameters being changed mid game. Score cards allowed to be modified mid game. Runs being given when scored by an illegal, ejected batter. Clearly, ISA has sunken to the level of SPA. Smh

So once again, rule book gets thrown out. Bases loaded 2 outs, illegal batter hits Home runs. Player is protested and ejected for being an illegal player and then they give them 3 runs. We lose by 2. ???? I won't even get into the illegal score card. ????

Christom10 .... I'm glad you wrote that with heavy sarcasm. Being home team means nothing when you have to try to hit around 11 fielders AND not allowed to hit it over the fence as well. They can keep their "benefit of being home team". (Phrased politely)

Discussion: Just me?

John028 .... After our discussion last night, I thought about it. While 50AAA usually tends to get the largest portion of teams, this year, due to sign-ups being taken in order they were received, 50AAA actually ended up being the smaller of the age groups and classifications. So most likely, your games/time slots are being used to fill in. Where as it's usually the other way around. Not saying that's the case. Just only thing that would explain it.

Mr. Dowell ... while Rob64 hasn't dropped the name of the team in question, I will. The team is Detroit Pride. Due to the familiarity we have with the Michigan teams/players, we know who played what last year. This team has 8 KNOWN AAA players from last year that supposedly some of them got reclassed, it's become apparent to not only the 55 AAA team's they've played but to the 60 AAA team's as well, that they are manipulating the system. And while I as a manager/player have never cared who we play, I have always asked that it be fair across the board. That being the case, my team played them this weekend. According to SSUSA rules, they get the equalizer because of being one class lower. Fine. I get that. Things are now supposed to be equal and fair across the board at this point right?! Except that isn't the case. Not only do they get the equalizer, but then said AAA team gets hit with a second disadvantage of having their home runs taken away. If the reason for the extra player/runs is what makes the 2 team's equal at that point, then shouldn't both teams still be able to hit their respective hr's? This question is also posed under another thread pertaining to HR's. And while I am aware that SSUSA likes to be their own sanction and do some things differently than other sanctions, other sanctions have already made that adjustment and are not hitting same age, different class team's with a "double penalty".

Discussion: Home Run Rule Question

Correct sir. The number of Home Runs allowed are NOT the equalizer. The 5 runs, or the extra fielder are. Exactly as you stated. My point is that if the runs/extra player are what is supposed to make the teams "equal", then taking Home runs from the upper team then becomes a penalty against them since an "equalizer" had already been given. You used the example of teams of differing ages but same class, the HR's staying the same. But in this case, as a 55 AAA player, we just spent an entire weekend playing 55 AA teams. So by your argument, and the rules, the extra runs/player is what makes those 2 teams EQUAL, then changing the AAA team's allowed HR's from 3 to 1 just became an advantage for the AA team since an "equalizer" had already been given. In your example, the older/slower team gets an "equalizer" in order to be able to keep up with the younger/faster team. In my example, an equalizer is given to offset the skills/ability of the lesser team, which by your argument and the rules, should now make them equal, but then you go on to penalize the higher skilled team even further by cutting their home runs. If the 5 runs or the extra fielder is what makes these 2 teams equal, then the respective HR's allowed should remain the same.

Discussion: Home Run Rule Question

I also question this rule and have for 5 years now. It just doesn't make sense. When playing out of class teams, if the extra fielder or runs is supposed to be the "equalizer", then changing the home runs to the lesser level is an additional penalty. Common sense would say that if you're giving what is considered an "equalizer", then both teams should be able to still hit their usual home runs. For that matter, the "lesser home runs" should be an option as one of the "equalizers" and the lower level team should be able to choose between those 3 options. Not get both. Sorry but it's just common sense.

Discussion: SSUSA Rulebook

In this case I am refering to section 3.8
And while I am aware that SSUSA is not governing the ISA World Championships, one would think that since they are using the SSUSA rulebook with the exceptions of 3 rules (legal bats, batters box, etc), and that they work in conjunction with SSUSA, that they would abide by and enforce the rules being as this is supposedly a "World Championship". A rule is a rule, and if the Director is going to pick and choose which rules that they are going to enforce and which one's they aren't, then the Director loses all credibility along with said tournament. 5 years of paying for tournaments, uniforms, weekends off, travel expenses, etc. At this point, I am losing faith in the associations and questioning whether it's worth it to continue to throwing money away because, in this case, the Director is making it up as he goes along. Several other protests filed by other teams today and he didn't adhere to the rules. And people wonder why the senior program struggles. Smh

Discussion: SSUSA Rulebook

So someone please explain to me how you have a written rule in the rulebook and it isn't enforced in the ISA World Championships?! If you are going to pick and choose which rules you are going to enforce/not enforce then that should have been clarified before the tournament started. Otherwise, the tournament is just a joke. Why should we as teams and players comply with the rules if Directors aren't going to enforce the rulebook. What a joke!

Discussion: Baden Fire

From the people that I've been talking to that played this past weekend, no complaints about the performance. Told that while they aren't XRocks, they still fly decent. Only complaint has been how filthy and discolored the balls become when playing on dirt fields. Baden's Utrip balls have the same issue. Their synthetic cover needs work.

Yes. That is the ball that I am referring to not being available. Which brings me back to my original question.... What ball will we be using to replace it?

Sounds like there is/will be a supply issue this year. That being the case, and since we were supposed to be using that ball across the board this year, what balls will we be using to replace the Trump Stote?

Given the current situation in Las Vegas regarding the increase in new Covid cases and the mask mandates going back into affect, is there a contingency plan in place if Las Vegas does another shut down?

Discussion: Infield fly rule......

Ok. So this will sound stupid for me asking and I know the rule... Someone please explain the infield fly rule because in the first time in my life, and I'm a registered umpire, I was told today that the infield fly rule is the umpires discretion.
