Discussion: Batting Order Advice

First, are you playing for fun or playing to win? If it’s just for fun how you set your lineup doesn’t matter but if your playing to win I would mix up your hitters so your lineup is not top heavy. In senior ball the key is to score 5 every inning, the way your set up you’re going to have a run drop off for one or possibly two innings batting 14. Mix it up so you have decent bats all through your order.

In NJ and interested in finding a new team. Rated this year as 50 Major but the team I was on earlier this year left a bad taste in my mouth and I’ll likely look for a team next year.

Going to Richmond?

I think you make the call as you feel it happened. Don’t waver from that and if you’re part of a two man crew and the defense challenges it then discuss it with the other ump.

It’s just so Bush league by the catcher and should have never been an out. The umpire was notified who the CR would be so that should have been the end of it. For years playing softball the CR was the last batted out but this being senior ball it has to be made complicated. That said, the day I need a CR is the day I put my equipment out at the curb for garbage pickup.

Discussion: playing on two different teams in same age group but different division

Likely because the 50’s team was a first year team and the 55 guys were friends from a team that moved up from 50 major. If the games didn’t occur the same time those guys could play both .

I do know a guy that played 50 major and 55 major plus in the same tournament. A bunch of the 55 guys were also on the 50’s team.

Discussion: Dont blame SSUSA for the ball problem.

Thanks Dave. I’ve been in contact with Buggs on another board about Evil BP balls and they’re also very difficult to get so after many months I had to go to another brand. The import/customs lag looks bad for all them but out of their hands.

Is the SSUSA deal with BSN so restrictive that SSUSA can’t source balls from another supplier even though BSN can’t fulfill their contract? I also thought Buggs owned the “microcell” technology?

Discussion: Umpires Making the Right (or Wrong) Call

He should stick to his original call or discuss the play with a second umpire if there was one. An umpire should hear the managers complaint nothing more.

Discussion: Which Ball travels further: ASA or SSUSA

The only thing about softballs that has always irked me is different manufacturers making balls to the same specs but perform totally different. Isn’t that the reason for the specs so that everyone is using an equally performing ball?

Discussion: How would you rule onthis one?

First, as the runner I’m not going to question whether I left early or not. That’s up to the defense to hopefully not challenge. Second, this being a senior board that’s all I care about, so once I’ve passed the commitment line I can’t return. I’m not an umpire but how I’m thinking as a runner.

My team was in the 10-11 Westminster tourney that Sunday got rained out. we were the 8am game but no one has control of the weather. I have moved on from that team so if they scheduled to play a make up for that tournament so I don't know what they were doing.

I wasn’t being negative to you Tim, it seems stressful trying to assign all the teams for tournaments. Especially with multiple complexes. As far as third place games I guess it depends on the mood of those teams at the time. Playing another sanction the team I was with last weekend just forfeited the third place game. The pool to brackets helps considering the money put out rather than just 0-2 and go home.

A third place game is rather meaningless for many teams since you’re not advancing towards playing for the championship. And about it just being about fun and enjoying yourself to some it is but while it is just Senior ball players at this level as in many levels get envelopes for playing.
