Discussion: SOFTBALL SHOES

I have just recently had this problem; there are only a couple of manufacturers that make a 3/4 top turf shoe anymore. The only ones I have found (in my size) are the Mizuno's you mentioned and a 3/4 top shoe from 3N2. Boombah seems to be only be producing low-top turf shoes in their new models. I have written Boombah customer service to plead with them to continue to produce a 3/4 top turf shoe. I hope others in the senior softball community will do the same.

Bump back to first page. Rick is headed in for more surgery next week. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Sponsors, manufacturers, associations, don't be shy...Thanks, Chris

Discussion: A fellow player could use a little help...

My friend and fellow senior softball player, Ricky Gold, who plays for the Rhino Linings 50's team out of Delaware, has hit a little bump in the road. Rick has been diagnosed with throat/neck cancer (nasopharyngeal cancer) and has just begun his treatment. Family, friends and players here are trying to help out to defray the cost of his treatment. Fundraising has begun and you can read more about it here: https://www.gofundme.com/rick_gold

Besides being an awesome softball player, Rick is one of the kindest and caring persons you'd ever want to meet. I have contacted as many local players that I know and asked them to spread the word, but I thought I might open this up to the whole senior softball community, because in a way, we are all survivors. During this season where we reflect and give thanks for how lucky we all are, perhaps we can reach out and help out one of our own.

Thanks for listening, and Happy Thanksgiving,
Chris Wurm

Discussion: Loss of a great teammate, Robert (Bob) Dobbins

Jose, this is just terrible news. A few of us on Tri-State and our local league team played with Bob before he moved to AZ and I've met his wife Nancy as well. Wonderful people. All of us that know them will have Nancy and their families in our thoughts. So very, very sad.

Discussion: Crazy ACC Schedule Change

Uh, yes you have met your goal for Friday. But correct me if I'm wrong, the way I read my schedule, most of the 55 Major games for Saturday start at 8AM (except for the 2 losers of the lower 4 seeds play-in game on Friday afternoon). So, Friday doesn't have much bearing on game times. Also, you could possibly play at 8AM, and then at 8PM on Saturday depending upon how things turn out. Yuck. Can we go back to the original schedule for Saturday? :-)

Hi Tim - Wow, Potomack is one of the nicest facilities around already, so that is awesome news. Tri-State Merchants 55's will be there. Not so sure about the Last Chance, although that could change. Chris Wurm

But just about every MLB basball player swings their bat with a weight in the on-deck circle. Maybe they should break out the wiffle ball bat? Or does it have something to do with the speed at which the ball is coming towards you?

Discussion: Bought my dad a bat... really hoping it's the right kind...

...or get him interested in travel ball where he can use it! Most of the players on here have several bats in their bag that are legal in the various associations that they play in. The three most common are ASA, USSSA, and then the Senior associations I mentioned, but there are several others and they each have their own bat rules. I'd be interested to hear how that Wanted hits, being a Combat man myself.

It looks like even though it is a "senior" league, they require bats with an ASA stamp and rating. The Combat Wanted you bought looks like a brand new issue Senior Softball bat which is only legal for use in SSUSA, ISSA/ISF, and SPA Senior Softball associations. I am sure there is someone out there that will be willing to buy it from you if this is the only league your dad plays in.

Discussion: PLAYER REGISTRATION

All new cards now expire 10/31/xx. You'll have to at least submit/pay your renewal to play in Florida. SSUSA will have you on record even if you do not receive your card by the time of the Fort Myers tournament. I went through this exact situation a couple of years ago. ( I think that's why they changed it :-) )

Discussion: Smokey Mtn Tournament

Speaking as someone who has managed a team the good thing about ISSA tournaments is there is a lot less BS that teams have to deal with than in SSUSA amd SPA. The brackets (at least when I have played in 50's and 55's for the last 7 years) seem to regulate themselves. Do you get an occasional "loaded" team that shouldn't be playing against the rest; yes, but I find that to be the exception rather than the rule. The thing that I find better is that ISSA/ISF has better "destinations" and better venues (i.e., fields) than SSUSA and SPA, in general. Most of the complexes that I have played on are excellent and SSUUSA and SPA should take note. Kudos to RB and Greg and company for making that a priority. If you care about "awards" they are better too, but I could give a hoot. My 2 cents...

Tri-State Merchants beat J Culver/Who's on First? in the 55AAA bracket. A shuttle from the parking lot to the (back) fields would be nice too! :-)
