In May we tried to get into another association's October Tournament. Nope No Can do. We are full they say. So would you rather play 4 days in an association that takes all teams or one that limits teams due to "being full"? That's Ok we will play SSUSA and only SSUSA. |

I have a block of 6 rooms reserved for the Winter Nationals in the Ft. Myers area November 7-11. I was going to take a 40+ team to the Tournament but it fell through and we are not going now. The 6 rooms/suites DoubleTree Suites which are located 3 miles from the North Collier Park. I believe the 40's, and the 50 Major & 50 Major Plus Divisions will be playing there. If anyone wants the rooms, text me 717-507-2555, you can have them. Thought I would offer before cancelling the reservation. Thanks |
| Dec. 26, 2012 2awesom | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Funniest Softball Stories Ok this happened at the Las Vegas Senior World's this past September. Similiar to MurrayW above, but a little different. We were in the loser's bracket of the 55AAA and had an 8:00 pm start time. Well as luck would have it the game started at about 10:30 pm. In fact the Umpires kept us moving because they told us about the lights going off at Midnight. What he did'nt tell us though, was that the Water Sprinklers in the outfield come on about 11:45 pm. So it's a back & forth game. I think the score was something like 27-25. It's the top bottom of the 7th and the opposing team scores 2 runs to tie it at 27 apiece. There's a runner on first, the game winning run, and there's 1 out. Guess what time it is now? Yes 11:45 pm. And guess what happens? Yes the water sprinklers go off in the outfield. Now, you see, we were the last game being played that night. So the Tournament Director was there watching the game. I'm the pitcher, guess what the TD & the Home Plate Umpire instruct me to do? Seriously... They say Play Ball... I have outfielders out there running around to avoid the shower they are getting and these two guys tell me to pitch and keep on playing. I refused. Then after a little discussion, they say Okay you guys need to come back tomorrow morning at 7:30 am to finish the game. So we are a East Coast Team, so we really walked off the field at 2:50 am. Then the lights went out... The good part, we came back the next day, got two quick outs and then scored 9 runs in the top of the 8th, we won the game. Play Ball... Sure Okay why not! |

My team - Roadhouse Blue's - from Pennsylvania did just about the same that Doorman's team did. We played in the 55 AAA division. Played a lot of softball and had a great time! But I have to tell you guys about the Water Sprinkler Game. It was last the game being played at Lorenzi on Saturday Night. The game started at 10:15 pm PST or 1:15 am EST. So we get to the bottom of the 7th,it's a tie game and it is now 11:45 pm. Two outs, runner on first, guess what happened? No the lights did not go out, we were told they would go out at 11:55 pm, BUT someone forgot to tell us about the Water Sprinklers... They came ON in the outfield! No problem right? Wrong! Guess what the Umpire & TD told us to do? Go ahead take a guess... They both very vehemently stated. Keep Playing, we have to get this game in! No kidding & they insisted we keep playing!! We said no way! Anyway it all worked out, we were told to come back Sunday Morning at 7:30 AM to finish the game.. Then the lights did go out.... Ouch! |

Honestly I can play 55 Major if I wanted to, I certainly feel I could hold my own. It's just frustrating not being able to find a team to hook up with and then when you do, sorry you might be too good to play for them. Again SSUSA was very cordial. There's no hard feelings. They will allow me to play AAA, Major etc. That's fair. But again the bottom line, I won't be playing anywhere. There's no 55+ AAA or Major teams looking for players. If you know of any, in Penna or adjoining states, let me know. Until then i'll just have to play USSSA with the young guys! |
