Discussion: Pitchers. A bit insane?

I have been pitching for the past 25 years and echo many of these statements. Yes, I tell myself all the time "I have to be crazy to still be doing this" LOL. I have been hit my fair share. But it is those hard lines drives hit to my left or right I say "I am glad that ball did not come straight back at me". I took one off the shin guard a few weeks ago. Just could not get the glove down fast enough especially after 4 games and the heat index. It did not hurt but it sure did bruise a lot more than I would have expected. After two and half weeks the shin is just starting to get back to normal.

Pa...I agree with 100%. I would much rather go to TOC than worlds. Unfortunately, we had 4 TOC events on our schedule this year. Only played in one. Two we didn’t play in because of weather and we were not allowed to play in Lansing because no other 40 team signed up. Definitely disappointed as we had to scramble to find on tournament for next weekend and now I have to drive an extra 2 hrs just to play ball.

DaveDowell...where did I question your personal integrity? NEVER. I posted all facts that I researched since the team list came out Monday. I wrote all team names in my notebook with rating and would be more than happy to show you. IF a rating appeal was submitted by AMR-DLB all I asked was to see proof of this appeal with corresponding dates. From our end things look a bit ambiguous because we are receiving an email that this 50 major plus team refused to let us play when the previous day we were told verbally they had no problem with it. Then yesterday on 8/7 their rating changed from MAJOR PLUS TO MAJOR as our team manager was questioning our potential participation in this tournament. Everything seems very coincidental...

@DaveDowell...the emails are forwarded to our team. I chose to post them so you could see that there was a 50 major plus team in the tournament contrary to your comment saying there was not one. My objective into posting those emails was for you to see the correspondence between Steve and George. Nothing in those emails is bad or malicious so for you to think that is wrong on your part. WE as a team just wanted answers as to the conflicting information not only from the SSUSA office but the previous history of TOC tournaments which I spent time researching this week.
Lastly, I am surprised at your speculation as to what my intent was for copying the emails for you to see. I will say WE as a team are disappointed in the way that this was handled since Monday.

Subject: Re: bob johnson/rhnet.org 40 major

George,

It appears that we are the only 40s team registered for Lansing. I assume we will need to win our bracket vs 50s in order to secure a birth to the TOC or do we automatically qualify by participating?

Thanks,
Stephen Shepanski

Hey steve, just had the boss ck out our team list for the northern and you are a singleton team so their will be no one for you to play. As a singleton team there would be not TOC berth. At this point, unless another 40 team gets In, we can refund or credit your entry fee. Pls let me know what you decide. george

How convenient their rating changed after we were told we could not play. I would like to see the appeal email would should be dated to reflect your response.

DaveDowell3...the other day I wrote down every 50+ team with the rating so I am disagreeing with you because AMR-DBL was 50 major plus. Here is the break down...1-40 major team, 1-50 major + team, 8 - 50 major teams, 2 - 50 AA teams, 8 - 50 AAA teams (but now 7 I believe). So now the BS flag is up a waving for a response on why the rating of the 50 major + team was changed...

I would love to here the answer from SSUSA on this because this tournament has been on our schedule since February. Players have taken off of work. Hotels have been reserved. I can not believe we are being told we CAN NOT play. SSUSA makes up rules as they go along. I have reasearched the past few years and have seen TOC tournaments where only 1 team in a particular age group/division has been allowed to play. I am calling BS on this one.

I think it is absolutely unacceptable that game times are not released yet. SSUSA needs to do a better job at releasing times a week in advance if not two weeks. Maybe deadlines to entering these tournaments should end sooner for this to happen. Again teams travel a considerable distance to play in these tournaments. Please start showing consideration for the players

Now I can say my third prediction was correct. SSUSA has ZERO intent on playing games. They knew the fields were unplayable. They deliberately kept telling teams the tournament was still on to see how many teams would drop so they could keep entry fee money. NOW THAT IS AN ABSOLUTE CRIME!! SSUSA JUST STOLE A TON OF MONEY!! I am no lawyer but I sure hope a player is and can enlighten the rest of us to see if teams have any recourse against SSUSA for dragging this tournament on to STEAL $535 from teams who decided to drop out for all the right reasons. SSUSA will be getting a letter from me with a rental car, hotel bill and other associates expenses for this past weekend for reimbursement. These people that run this association need to see how much money WE as players spend. SSUSA you have disrespected the players and your leadership should definitely be questioned moving forward. Safe travels to the rest of the players in Loudoun!!

So far I have made two predictions (the first before leaving NY and the 2nd last night) and both have been correct. I made a 3rd today which I will not share until tomorrow. Again SSUSA should be ashamed, which I know they are not and have proven this over the past two days. IMO this is no better than stealing. Yes you heard me correct SSUSA is stealing $535 from teams that have not played 1 single game. Teams who have traveled to Virginia, taken tome off from work and paid for hotels then deciding it was in the best interest of the team to return home after ZERO PROGRESS has been made in 3 days. Lastly, I am in absolute shock the SSUSA President is in Loudoun and can not see the amount of rain that has fallen let alone the field conditions.

In all my years of softball I have never met a bigger bunch of inconsiderate people. To drag this tournament out is absolutely hysterical. I personally have not seen the fields however I will take a guess and say they can not be good let alone safe for play. For players to keep incurring travel costs is an ignorant mindset by SSUSA. If the tournament is cancelled we would not have to spend money on another night for hotel costs and salvage what is left back home with family.

Drove 7 hours to be told our game was cancelled today due to field conditions which I predicted last night. It rained most of the day today and it will rain all night into the early morning. (As I just watched the full weather report on the news). Our team was just told 9AM game tomorrow morning. I do not expect the field conditions to be any better in the AM if not worse but hey try to squeeze in the only age group that has not played yet so you can keep the $535. What a bunch of money hungry people at SSUSA!!! I am beyond disappointed with the actions and planning with this association. You have inconvenienced many players trying to drag this tournament along. It is an absolute disgrace and you people should be ashamed!! Oh the best part we were told 1 pool game into single elimination bracket. Do we get half our money back for possibly playing half the games?? Lastly, please have the common decency to notify teams first thing in the AM if fields are u playable...

I agree!! Everyone wants to play ball, however if the local directors can not decide with 100% certainty that the weather is going to cooperate and the field conditions will improve then a decision should be made. Players have taken time off from work not to mention the other travel expenses associated with this tournament. I doubt the SSUSA office will reimburse for those travel expenses if the tournament does not happen once players arrive. Stop being concerned about having to refund the entry fee all the time and do what is in the best interest of the players. Shorting games really is not the best course of action in my opinion.
