Dec. 11, 2024 TWG | Topic: Website comments Discussion: Bat Warmers To claim that warming your bat is somehow similar to rolling or shaving a bat is simply absurd. Rolling and shaving a bat is a permanent alteration specifically done to create greater performance then what the bat was manufactured to do. Heating a bat is necessary in cold weather only, that allows the bat to perform its natural function. To place blame or shame on a player for wanting their bat to function normally, which cannot be accomplished because of weather conditions out of their control is an unrealistic rationalization. Then to suggest that a player should ignore the manufacturers warnings is just pathetic. Am I to presume that umpires will now be supplied with temperature guns and to what extent will this rule be enforced? If I keep my bat in my black bat bag that warms my bat above the ambient temperature, will I be tossed from a game? This is absurdity at its finest. There must be something in the water up in Sacramento. That place just seems to alter perceptions. If the Board can't understand they have gone a step too far...maybe teams need to take control and simply not book tournaments during cold weather as a response. Even non-profits have a bottom line. |
March 13, 2020 TWG | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Corona Virus (COVID-19) A couple of weeks ago SSUSA put out an email stating that the show will go on regardless and no tournaments will be canceled. Quite frankly, I thought that letter a bit premature. Now they've decided that anyone over 65 will not be able to play on their teams, but somehow it will be OK if they play down a division. What's the point? Please explain. Every single report I have read states that this disease affects seniors 60 and over the most. So why are the 60's still playing? Why the demarcation line that appears arbitrary and not in line with the facts? My hunch is revenue. If they lose the 60's, not enough revenue to warrant having the tournaments. I don't disagree with posts suggesting this entire process is an over-reaction. That probably in all likelihood will be the end result. There is one certain way to stop this in its tracks and not let it spread and that is limit and and all exposure. All of our local softball leagues have suspended all play regardless of age until further notice. I think SSUSA needs to get on board with all major sports leagues, entertainment events; etc. and simply not allow any possibility of this spreading further. A month or two of lost softball is a small price to pay. Need I mention the recklessness, even though it was an attempt to be funny, of the basketball player Rudy Gobert. I can only protect myself so far, it is being exposed to reckless people that is concerning and by not canceling these tournaments until further notice, SSUSA is putting all of us in jeopardy. |
Oct. 23, 2017 TWG | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: SoCal Player 60 AAA or Majors Never played travel softball. I was told I could play AAA or Majors. I'm an outfielder, primarily center, either side. Contact hitter, some power, hit to all fields. Cover a lot of ground in the outfield. Fast runner. |
