Wow—I’m 64 and Howdy Doody was pretty much passé in my time as a youth glued to 4 channels. This site is a great venue for people like me to get into items way above my pay grade. I will recompose a comment on hand injuries in the next day or so since my composition got blown into the abyss yesterday. Thanks for all your efforts to keep us all informed Dave.
Happy New Year Everyone🎉

My alignment favors the 11th fielder. Another component of the equation: should the younger age brackets also consider the 11th defensive player? It seems the major division players are the guys who are the most consistent finding the ‘holes.’ Based in that rationale, should the voting bodies make it tougher for them to get hits? Just wondering if your feedback puts me in the twilight zone on this one—lol.

Thanks Dave. I’m suppose to move up to a 65 team in November. The coach said since I turn 64 this month I will be eligible for 65’s after November 1st. Just to clarify my situation. Thanks

Dave. When you get a chance can you display the relevant rule for age protocols for 65’s? Does it matter if the tourney is a qualifier. People have told me that teams are allowed underage players if the tourney is not a qualifier? I don’t want to go there and risk a suspension.

This should be an easy one except for me. Do all bats with an ASA stamp conform to a 1.20 rating?

I know what you mean Turning 2. It’s a hard position to play. I just started playing last year again. Played RF back in the day 30 years ago when I could throw it home. The right side is the most difficult for sure. But you made me feel better with your comment.

Thanks for that info Bill. Hopefully I will have the same outcome you did without anything more serious. Funny, I was shopping for 16” glove a few days earlier. The ball was tailing a little but it could have been the wind gust too. I didn’t need to throw the ball so I tend to use both hands with the glove in front of my face. Gonna go a little more to the side now—lol

Discussion: Facial Injuries

Just wanted to share some advice on getting treatment for head/face injuries. I got hit in the eye socket over the weekend at the Spring Training Classic in Phoenix. It happened when I was fielding a fly ball in RC. The ball deflected off my glove and hit me in the left eye socket. My wife insisted that I go in because the pupil wasn’t responding in light. The ER doc noticed the same thing and called the eye doc in. He did an exam and said it was a good thing I came in because it would have gotten worse if not treated with a potential for total vision loss. The CT scan showed blood pooling in the sinus cavity of the opposite eye. Now I have follow ups with the eye doc and ENT, and a whole lotta eye drops. Moral of the story listen to your better half. For me, it’s back to training camp to learn how to field a routine fly.

Anyone had any luck with your batting grip changes? I just started reading about the notion that knocking knuckles aligned on the bat create more bat speed. I’m looking more for accuracy. I need to experiment with varying grips I guess. I hit 625 last season and looking to better it to 750.

Sounds good. My OBP was 633 just by trying to get on base. I think it will improve with timing and confidence. I just got a new driver that has a 50 gram shaft when most shafts are around 60. Since it feels better and my control is better. The distance is coming along. Golf is a different animal though—-can you say putt for dough!

Yes. It is odd that I seem to get more pop with the D. I have only used the Melee for one tourney. I was the 8th batter and am a 650 hitter—league average. I got cheated and decided to burn the fielder. Because I don’t have power I will always go with the pitch and hit to all fields. I should probably just stick to bases pops once I get the optimal bat for me. Again, these are the only
2 bats I have used after a 13 year layoff. Thanks guys.

But I meant swinging a heavier bat for training purposes.

I have a Melee that’s 25 oz. I seem to have an ASA DiMarini that 27 oz
I seem to have more pop with the DiMarini. I can get about 290 out of it
I just started playing again last year. But I never have hit with power.

Good advice. Wasn’t sure if I should be swinging a heavier bat to increase bat speed. Some of the pro golfers use that technique. Phil Mickelson for one—he is hitting bombs.
