Discussion: Pitchers Mask

as a pitcher that has been hit in the face i highly recommend wearing a helmet of some sort. i have no problem with vision in a helmet. id gladly sacrifice a minute amount of side vision for more protection. just remember it only takes one ball to do some serious damage. cover up

Discussion: New Anniversary Freak

I hit with my new Jason Kendrick Freak for the first time yesterday. It was very hot and humid. Put about 50 swings on it with a variety of balls. Some 52 cor socks some GSL gold dots and some thunder advanced and two bullets. This bat did not like the 52's but neither do I so who cares. The GSL balls did not work well either. For the first 15-20 swings i was thinking i had made a big mistake getting this bat.The barrel felt extremely stiff for a senior bat and the sound is completely different from my dudlys addidas worth or even my freak platinum from last year.I had a hyper z three years ago and that is the sound this freak makes.Kinda metallic. Not the "crack" i like. Then i hit the first bomb!Wow!"I liked that",I said.I asked the pitcher what kind of ball. U-trip gold dot he said.Only one in the bag. Then we got to the thunder advanced.Boom!Boom!Boom!A couple of Bullets? See ya!No doubt with another 150+ swings this bat will be as hot as my other bats.I had no problem with the end load.Very controllable.Hit liners to center when i wanted.I heard last years model swung heavy.I did not feel that.

Brickyard was first tournament of the year for me. I loved the 1-1 starting count. I hated the $3 admission.

anyone ever play in a one pitch tournament? sure you have. scoring is crazy because everyone is swinging.the pitcher doesnt want to walk anyone so you get better pitches to hit.i didnt buy a $200 walking stick. SWING AWAY

Discussion: more defense please

When are senior softball and all other forms of slow pitch going to get with the times? When are you going to allow 11 players on defense? its ridiculous to watch a team hit at a pitcher over and over until the pitcher finally gets hit and the clowns doing the hitting use the excuse "its the biggest hole on the field" or "we're out of home runs" or "i had 2 strikes" or my favorite "i wasn't trying to hit you" B! S! So play a five man you say. B!S! Seniors barely cover the outfield with 4 let alone 3 and a 4 man infield is no excuse for hitting back at the pitcher.Theres nothing wrong with adding some defense to the game and a miniscule amount of protection for the pitcher. please dont get on here and say "I dont think people intentionally hit at pitchers" BS! I watched a major+ team repeatedly hit at AAA pitchers this weekend hitting one i know for sure. Very low class dont care what anyone says.

Discussion: what is the call

i never would have known that the catcher cannot tag a runner coming to score. im glad i read this or i may have looked pretty silly at some point. 2 years late or not lol im still new to the senior game but i love the rules. other associations could improve their game with a lot of the senior rules

Discussion: 1-1 count and new ball

the worst thing about the 1-1 in younger ball is the umpire.if he makes a bad strike call you are pretty much screwed but with the strike mat which i absolutely love, and courtesy foul id think there would be no problem.

Discussion: WHY SO RESTRICTIVE

This is not to be taken as critical. I love the game as it is.Just thinking. Why do we need home run limits AND a runs per inning rule? I love the runs per inning rule.I've never been a fan of home run limits in any brand of softball. As a pitcher i've always preferred pitching against teams that like to hit home runs. You tend to get a lot more fly balls. When the home runs are gone i tend to get a little nervous, if you know what i mean.As a hitter i get a rush every time i hit the ball over the fence. The game is supposed to be fun so why limit the fun. It just seems like the runs per inning rule takes care of keeping the games competitive.A few years ago i read an article about THE WORLDS LARGEST SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT.I think it was held in Virginia or Maryland each year.At the time there were no home run limits on any class but there was a maximum number of runs you could score each game which was also broken down to a max number you could have at the end of each inning.plus any runs you didn't score in one inning carried over to the next.So if your class was allotted 15 runs per game you would be allowed to score 3 in the first inning.by the end of the next inning you were allowed to have scored a total of 5.The good thing was if you only scored 2 in the first you could still finish the second with 5.The man in charge made a good point.Any team can stop hitting home runs but if you want to win you have to keep scoring.Teams that can score 20+ every game are more likely to play at a classification that allows them to and so on and so on.Example:My league allows 5 home runs per game the rest outs.We played a game where the other team hit all 5 dingers but only scored 11 runs. We beat them and didn't hit any home runs.Did being able to hit bombs mean they were a better team? In the state tournament everyone was keeping up with the power teams. Who won?A team that never hit the ball over the fence but wore you out with single after single.SO BOMBS AWAY!

Discussion: CLASSIC BATS

anyone out there ever have a bat called OZONE? It was distributed by a company called Powerhouse Sports in Florda back in the 90s. It was a doublewall aluminum. It was an odd looking bat because the barrel was so short. It almost looked like a fungo. My bp buddy and i had the only two i ever saw. It was a bomb dropper. Much better than my doublewall distance.

Discussion: SENIOR RULES VS "REGULAR RULES"

I have only played one season of senior ball but it only took one game for me to fall in love with it. I just pitched 5 games in an NSA rules tournament this past weekend. If I had hair i would have been pulling it out by the end of the last game. Why doesnt all softball use a strike mat? Does it make the strike zone too clear? Why cant i stand a few feet behind the rubber when pitching? LOL Does it make me to hard to hit at? Why cant i have 12 feet arc? THe kiddies cant hit it?1-1 count with NO courtesy foul? no run limit per inning? THe sandbaggers love that.Equalizer? lol Whats that? We swing better bats. We hit better balls although NSA is giving the option of hitting a 44-400 this year. There are other examples but my point is the senior game is a great game.Other associations should take note. OLDER GUYS RULE!

Discussion: pitcher getting hit

it didnt appear to be intentional thats why i was curious.ive pitched for 30 years. i know when someone is hitting at me or when they are just trying to get a hit in the middle. this incident just seemed to be an accident. i watch most of the videos that dave velasquez puts on youtube and have not seen him or any of his teammates do anything dirty.i enjoy watching those games. i guess what i really want to know is where was that umpire all those years i was getting hit and hit at lol

Discussion: pitcher getting hit

i just watched a senior game on youtube this morning from 2016 nationals in vegas.miami power vs texas mavericks. the pitcher got hit by line drive and the umpire told the mavericks that the next person that hit the pitcher was out. ive only played senior ball one summer. is this a rule that is always enforced or was it just for that tournament?

Discussion: WOULD YOU QUIT PLAYING?

There is an evil force out there and it's trying to wiggle its way into our lives.IT's known as the .52 cor low compression ball.I've been hitting this thing since ASA and NSA started using them.I dont care how far Billy Bob can hit one they are the worst ball i've hit in 40 years of playing.Thats my opinion and opinions are like .... well, you get the point.I was thrilled when i turned 55 and found out that senior ball used a 44-375. Like a kid on Christmas morning. I'm curious to know how many more, if any, would quit playing if senior ball went to this ball.

Discussion: why BP is better than games

i hit when i want.i hit as much as i want.the park is only 5 minutes away.i hit any ball i want. i hit as many bombs as i want.i play my music as loud as i want.i dont have any clowns telling where to hit it.i dont worry about getting hit because we use a screen.when practice is over i always feel up.i dont worry about dealing with bozo umpires.ive never seen or been involved in a fight at BP.i think i just talked myself into spending the season doing what i love best. HITTING lol good luck to everyone and be safe

Discussion: Drum Roll thread closed ?

the problem with the 1-1 count is the umpire. but senior ball has practically eliminated that problem with the strike mat. plus with the courtesy foul i dont think we will even notice the change.
